I've attached a song I made in my spare time using Acid music studio.
Its original purpose was to be the level theme in a game I was making, but I canceled the project before it was finished.
Feedback would be appreciated.
-
Nice, sounds more like something over a cutscene as an intro (I.E., not like the original Genesis intros). Nice job, sounds really nice. This program, what does it cost?
-
I much enjoy making music too; I have many projects started, though very few are actually completed. But this seems like a great time to advertise and let people hear them..
-
Heh, I got one too. It's short, but whatever.
I mostly just use my midi program for testing bass riffs...
To Azure and Stefan: Awesome work :D
EDIT: Teehee, I made another one, song 2 plz.

Stupid browser won't let me attach more than one file at once.

THAT ONE WAS EPIC.
But yeah, it was really good. :D

AGREED.
Thanks. I plan to have the completed version very soon.

I like that labrynth song ^^

I know thread necromancy is a sin, but I think it would be more of a sin to post a new topic.
I have a lot more midis, and there are a few incomplete ones I particularly feel like sharing.
One was an accidental bassline discovery turned halfsong, another was an intentional attempt to create a funk instrumental, the third was made when I was prompted for a boss theme.. enjoy!
-
These all rock, but midi style! Can u give me a link to the site where u downloaded the program or something. Because I wanna try these. So what site did u get Acid from? Acid.com?
-
I bought acid music at a store.
-
Guys, this topic is old.
Say no to thread necromancy.
-
I posted in the topic with relevant information and 3 new midis. I revived an old topic with fresh content instead of opting to create another topic with the first one on the same page.
The type of thread necromancy that is usually unappreciated is the contentless style of posting you just made in trying to fight the revival of the topic. Similarly, the post I'm making right now in trying to fight you.
-
Oh man, more thread necromancy.
New midi: this one is a rearrangement of Coldplay's "The Scientist". The goal was to change up the piece's instrumentation and harmonize the vocals and I think I did that and made it interesting to listen to.... so it gets posted.
sorry for the necromancy guys~
-
Post again in my topic will you?!?!?!?
Ok. It's fine.
Wow, I've put both my 100th and 300th posts in this topic.
And both were rather pointless. ?_?
-
I'd like to note that "fun with funk" sounds very much like TJ&E's theme from the first game... which, rather than being a bad thing, makes it totally mad-pro...
Have you ever had interest in getting some better progs/equipment and making more music, Stef? You have talent that's very similar to a good (ex) friend of mine...
You have a musical talent... that's something I'm rather envious of... I can't create music, I can only recreate music...
Regardless to your plans with it, congratulations on your present accomplishments, and I look forward to seeing more ^_^
-

I can't upload stuff very well....Upth is so going to go ballistic on me
-
Everything's pretty damn good, Cruzr... Metal is a step higher (Personal taste, I guess?)
Area53 sounds like something out of Ridge Racer (PSX), and take that as a compliment... I love the music to that game... ^_^ (ROTTERDAM NATION FTW!)
As far as your WIP go, I think there's a lot you could still do... I'm wondering what inspirations you have...
Also, regardless of what the other asshats say, though I usually don't like remixs that aren't VG mixes, I have to say that cutting deep is a totally awesome build...
what progs do you use for this?
Keep up the good work... I look forward to seeing what else you can put out...
-
Test MIDI for Stefan. Not finished.
EDIT: now with a revision.

True Are 53 is out of Advance 2 >_>
and i use FL Studio version <emphasis> FIVE </sarascm>
-
Umm... as it's a portable, and I usually didn't have sound on to preserve battery... (In fact, I can't think of any music from SAdva2) I may never have heard it...
-
Lol. Well i'm surprised how many people like that one.
-
This is the official necromancy appretiation topic now.
Listen to the new midi as it is good.
-
^ That's really good. I like the bell part around 0:50 especially. It kinda sounds like menu screen music...or something you'd hear in an adventure field. :P Whatever. It's good, m'kay?
Oh hey, if ya don't mind...*points at file attached*
-
All of these were very good! I liked them all really.
-
I'm taking a small class that's entirely Acid Music. I'll post those when finished.
-
New version ftw! Beginning has been spiced up, with a new, happy but mysterious ending.
-
The beginning of THIS ONE *wh-attach* isn't great, but it's a good short suspenseful theme.
Edit: Also this (attached again). Not great, but a good tune for something actiontastic. It's short, which means I'll probably update it soon.
Edit 2: Thanks, Cutiefox. Yours is cool too, sounds like something... happy. Keep writing.
Edit 3: Writing music, that is. Unnecessary edit? Sorry.
-
:D Hehe, the new version is even better. And the Heroic song is great too. I think...that if you're any good at it, you should make a game and use these songs. If not, you should find someone who needs a musician, 'cause you're good making MIDI sound good. Usually they sound pretty boring.
Oh, ja minulla on uusi MIDI. :D Nothing fancy though, I'd probably edit it around some. It's supposed to be like, for a forest or any other "mysterious setting".
-
Hey, thanks. Yours are great too (that Forest theme is very fitting).
I honestly have a lot of trouble thinking up ideas for midis. But once I get started, it only takes a few hours (lol) usually to establish a good formula for that song.
Concerning game-making, I'm mediocre. (I don't have game maker pro so I can't do loops, etc. just basic platforms and enemies.) Maybe I'll find someone who needs music, like you said. You'd be great at that too!
*Works on "heroic"*
-
I agree on your abilities at making midi sound good; you have a good grasp on instrumentation to make midi sound more than midi.
I think it would be great to see more complex music from you, though; I like your instrumentation, and I like the chord progressions, but I'm generally looking for a little more out of the song. Do you get what I'm saying? When I make a midi, I tend to make it fairly complex sounding.
I sort of wonder what I could do if I took your midis and wrote my own stuff on top of it... I think I might be able to make something pretty good sounding. You want to see how that turns out?
Like listen to these wips (man, everything I do is a wip lol).
-
To Azure: Well at least you seem to have a good grasp on notes and rhythm. I have ideas for tunes all the time, but I suck at figuring out how to input the various rhythms and chords. So I usually end up with rather simplistic songs. AND YES, WORK ON HEROIC 'CAUSE IT BE MEGA AWESOME.
To Stefan: Funaltsong is awesome. It sounds delightfully crazy. It could fit for a Special Stage actually...
And I have yet ANOTHER MIDI. *shot* This one...let's see. If I were to make a game, and I had some sort of cemetery level, that's where I'd stick this in. The part after 18 seconds to the end is supposed to loop, so that's why I copied it at the end. :P
It seems we at TSC are quite a musical bunch. Lol, let's form a band and pwn everyone. [kidding kidding]
-
Cutiefox: That graveyard/cemetary/scary_holy_crap theme is FREAKING AWESOME! So imaginitive, and awesome, and not short at all! If I had a game, I'd definitely use it.
Stefan: You have amazing musical talent. Your songs are so much more lively than mine! I especially love that old "melodowns". It's catchy. funaltsong and cloud are stellar as well.
Let's see, what else?
Oh yeah "Heroic" update. *attach*
WARNING: The new Heroic is experimental. Instead of an instant climactic point after the intro, I've decided to do some pretty melodies and stuff for the first thirty seconds or so, then followed by a fast-paced blast of awesome. I don't know if I'll keep it or change it or what. Feedback?
-
Yay, thanks! :D That's probably one of the best MIDIs I'll ever make. XD
This new version of Heroic is great, and fitting for...whatever you could use it for! IMO, you could use it on a cutscene or a boss battle, it would sound good for either of those.
It also finishes pretty nicely, and loops without sounding too sudden.
I have a suggestion [which obviously you don't gotta follow if you don't feel like it :P]. This version that you just posted, keep that. THAT sounds pretty finished if you want to use it for cutscenes and other similar somethings. The suggestion, make a copy of it and make it more "full" and upbeat while still keeping the song close to how it already is. From that it should be more suitable for action stages or boss battles.
And yeah, totally optional thing, but maybe you could try it and see what happens!
Edit: By the way, any suggestions on something I should try?
-
kudos to all here...
totally amazing, imnsho!
-
Hey, guys, I just made a new song (or at least the first 48 seconds of one), and I think it's pretty good. It's a bit of a deviation, I think, from my normal style, but the piano dominates once again.
-
New version! 100x better.
-
I likes dis sekund vershun. It ez vun hundred taims beiter den de ald vun.
-
Er, dankhuu? I duhnt kweit untershtant yor dei-elect. Speeck sluhwer, prease?
-
^^ The second version of Second Past is 100 times better than the first one, it sounds more completed. :P
Ooookay, these are all unfinished at the moment, but I guess I'd like some suggestions on how to finish them. They're all supposed to be background music.
Floating Temple is sort of obvious; some of the instrument tracks, are unfinished and I can't figure out if I should put a new section after where it stops or repeat an earlier section. :/
At Sea...I think I know how to finish this, so er... yeah just say if it's good so far. >_>
Mansion is weird, but what I'd like to know is, should it have a lot or just a little percussion? Can't really decide what's more suitable...but then again I'm not too fond of this one anyway.
EDIT: I just found something really weird. O_o I tried converting one of my files to an mp3, and it sounds REALLY weird> http://media-mobi.com/en/?play-q0ckmqfe2g6ius8888012o69w5zkz3u7
Try it out with any of your files and listen to the trippiness...
EDIT: That would be awesome! Go ahead, Stefan.
-
I really like some of the things happening in mansion.. I think I might take that song and develop it from a couple lines in the song you posted... keep your eyes open for it.
(here it is.. it's really short and doesn't have much substance.. all I did was take the melody that kicks in at 7 seconds in your mansion piece and put a few parts around it to make this... if you like it cool, it was like a half hour investment so no biggie if you don't lol. I particularly like the drums)
-
dskjfske That's AWESOME! That's just what I was trying to do, it actually sounds...mansion-ish now. O.O
-
Oh, I almost forgot. If you have the time, Stefan, you ABSOLUTELY can modify my midis to your liking and post them here. In fact, I encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience.
(Especially since the program I use CANNOT SYNTHESIZE DRUMS! I have to establish a beat only with that "synth drum" voice, which sounds the same no matter what note you put into it.)
And that celtic castle is AWESOMEEEEE!
Stefan wins the awesome music award for the day, Cutiefox wins creativity, and I win...
...not much. D:
-
(Especially since the program I use CANNOT SYNTHESIZE DRUMS! I have to establish a beat only with that "synth drum" voice, which sounds the same no matter what note you put into it.)
Anvil Studio ftw, dude.
EDIT: Finished version of Floating Temple
-
Thanks, I just got the program now. Wait more midis patiently, as they will come.
-
Anvil Studio ftw, dude.
QFT
And I'll have to listen to these when I have more time ... I've got this One Big Idea that I'm trying to nail down, and the music is important.
-
Y'know, I thought by whatever age we are, that we'd have a bigger vocabulary...but apparently the only word we keep using is "awesome". :0
Some games with interesting/inspiring BGM: Touhou, Trauma Center, and Yume Nikki.
All of them have great music, and from them I've learned some interesting note patterns and gotten various ideas.
Meh, why not. I got another unfinished song. Can't figure out what this one should be for though, therefore I named it a crazy name. :P
I should really finish these though, that'd be nice. XD
-
:D I know I should've probably finished one of those other songs, but this new one here is great! IMO...
It's a boss battle theme. I think I got the whole "suspense" factor down pretty well! And I'm particularly fond of the instrumentation I used.
Yeah, you can probably tell that I'm mega proud of this by now. *bricked*
-
Pretty good I'd say Cutiefox. The boss battle one was pretty honorable, robust, and action-packed.
-
Hi guys,
I have attached what is more than likely the best music I've written so far, which is still a work in progress. Turns out my program CAN synthesize drums!
After this post, you'll likely never hear from me again. It's not because I'm banned, and I hold no grudges against any of you guys. Simply put, I'm moving on to bigger and better things than competition, so I'd say being banned is no longer of any consequence to me! (However, I wish my stats could've stayed up so people would recognize the overwhelming effort I put in to SA(DX) and other games.)
I am leaving mainly because of the reputation I've established here, which is to most of you a really weird kid who once beat the Sand Hill records, made a bit of music, played SA(DX), and finally got banned because of an account named "Ouchkibibbles". I often acted like a moron here, and some of the consequences of that make me dread this place!
I'm not entirely sure why, but the sarcastic attitudes of many of you TSCers got to me, and it makes this site seem like a separate and more shallow reality! Members seem superficial, and I'm beginning to resent them for that.
So, good bye. I think it's safe to say I'll miss less than half of you.
...and have fun playing Sonic (I don't play anymore, I've simply lost all love for the blue hedgehog).
-
Bye old chap. I believe we all miss ya. Good luck out there. Maybe our paths will cross again someday. But until then, see ya later. (Exit music plays for Azure)
-
:( G'bye. Hope you enjoy whatever outside of TSC.
Anyway the MIDI is super awesome. And somehow kinda fits into your leaving.
-
Hey Azure if you are still floating around here until you really leave and you see this post. If you want to still compete in anything, I suggest you can go to Cyberscore instead. They have a load of charts and not just Sonic games. (BTW, Groudon is a mod there so careful ;)
They do have a chatroom but doesn't get as much traffic as we do here. But they do allow you to get on other channels like here. They do have forums. (I'm usually not in there) I am SuperVegeta5425 if you want to meet me there. So try there, if you don't like it fine, I don't want to push you to do something you don't want.
But try them, and see if you can do better there.
-
Ya know, as annoying as you were at times, you kinda grew on me. I'll miss ya, man.
And thanks for not saying you're leaving in a brand-new topic. <_<
-
The other day, I was trying to make a song that would hurt you when you listened to it. Attached is the result...which is markedly worse than this (http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2009/02/the_scientifically_engineered.php).
I'll make up for it by recording a winsome guitar solo sometime later this week.
-
IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
MY EARS DIED OVER 9000 TIMES.
-
Likewise, I shed a tear.
-
congratulations, you made my ears bleed...
-
Ok guys, one final post (for nostalgia's sake).
I'll actually miss a lot of you (Especially those of you who posted in this topic as we can relate in the area of music). Yes, I'll even miss Minus, as sarcastic as he can be. :) hahaminus
Truth to tell, I'm quitting TSC for many more reasons then I've led you to believe...
THE MOST AWESOMEST REASON is because of someone named CHRISTINA!
SEE BELOW!!!
hahaha yes I am not a loser in real life.
HOWEVER,
Don't think that this is the end of my music!!! I've made some minor edits on the Triumph (attached), and http://azureblade.fileave.com has all my music, EVER, and will be updated all the time.
So goodbye, and keep, uh, musicing.
-
So are you gonna take my advice? Azure? Well bye then.
-
leaving TSC for womanz? BS. I has womanz and I'm still at TSC.

Likewise, I have a gf while still being a full-time nerd...
Hell, my gf has an account here too, though she can more often be found playing some CRPG, recently ^_^

Your GF has an account here? Who is it, Koshibou?/me bricked yet again

^_^
-
O Hai. Welcome to TSC!
-
She actually was a long time member here. The she signed up in 2006, but she never talked in the forums or chatroom. That's the only post she has made since she signed up in 2006. (Checks profile, correct!) She only competed for Sonic 1.
-
You are such a idiot. We can read, we are smart, and we do have initiative >_>
-
Well some people don't read. Got it. And what right do you have to call me an idiot? Oh yeah! You don't have any rights to.
-
...You're an idiot. :/
-
Lmfao!
-
Well some people don't read.
guess they won't read your post either then...
-
Hey if I wanted back-talk I'd buy myself a talking bass fish.
-
I made her an account because she wanted to give it a shot... she's usually sitting over my shoulder when I'm running... she offers advice based on aesthetics, and often she saves me time by refining things that I thought would be slower (Typically, for example, I'd rather smash into a wall and spindash into a tunnel than slow down a bit and land in the tunnel... check my YouTube profile and look at the beginning of my HP2 run (TAS has it), and you can see the amazing!
-
OSNAP AN ACTUAL MUSIC-RELATED POST:
Giveaway of the Day (http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/) is giving away a free MIDI->MP3 converter today. Y'all might be interested in something like that.
-
...
Sorta weird-feeling to post since Azure ain't around...
BUT WHAT THE HAY, EH?
I have here a new MIDI. This one is supposed to be sort of disco/dance-ish. I mainly made this for a character I have. :P
Damned Windows Media Player needs to stop putting that little pause after the song ends, it sounds funny looping from that. >_>
-
leaving TSC for womanz? BS. I has womanz and I'm still at TSC.
Me and Rolken too :(
and our women are TSC womanz as well :D.
Also we should keep this topic going regardless. In 70mins of my free period today i have come-up with what should be a very good make of Star Light Zone. This is by far from complete and it should be noted that i am still working on it.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A74XM8WL <-- link here because of Attachment Limit >_>
Also Cutiefox: O_O That is so awesome :D
Your GF has an account here? Who is it, Koshibou?/me bricked yet again
Don't make me hunt you down bitch. >:(
-
Thanks, CrUiZ3r! Yours is great, so I'm sure the finished version will be even better. ^^
-
there's some parts that are imperfect, (a lot of them in the drum line), but it's a very awesome midi, cutiefox.
-

I liekd my version of it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1IF8N6TK

Way too much distortion and reverb on everything makes it difficult to hear almost anything except "fuzz". Anyway, that song has what's probably the best melodic substance (and almost instrumentation) of anything in this topic, so I'm definitely going to take my own stab at remixing it. Just to make sure you're prepared :P.
-
Mothershit I can't believe you guys find it interesting. I luffs you dudes.
That's a very coolio remix, CrUiZ3R.
And sure, Stefan, I'll go over the drum track and see what can stand some change. ^^

I know. It sounds much better before i exported it. The bass line was much more emphatic.

Of course i find it interesting. Music is a good hobby of mine. And that remix was just a simple import and putting different synths and instruments in it.
-
Here's my remix (just changing instruments, changing the drum line very slightly, and adding a little more substance to the beginning.)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MQHV15I0
And it's an excellent piece of music. The melody line might be complex, but it's really enjoyable. Don't be surprised we like it. :P
-
That's awesome, Stefan. :D Nice how you made it sound heavy...and a bit ambient. So that's cool.
Some funny things about this song...
When I was first working on it, I didn't think I'd get much further than the bass line, so it was great when I figured out how to fit more instruments in and a melody.
And unlike the other MIDIs I made, I got most of the melody first try [y'know like not having to erase and edit much], and it felt kinda like a puzzle, 'cause I was mostly thinking about how many notes I could fit into one measure.
As for the title, the character I made this for has an obsession with glowsticks *coughravercough* and is an alien hunter [therefore "...Hunting Nights"]. Also this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glowsticking
THIS POST TO BE EDITED SOMETIME SOON WITH AN EDIT TO THE MIDI.
Okay! Edit: Attached here is an edited version of GaHN. Made some minor changes to the drum track [very minor, you're a good listener if you figure out what's been changed], and added some extra notes to the 2nd bass track in the 1:13+ section [more noticeable than the drum edits].
-
Sounds awesome Stefan.
I've finished that Star Light Zone i was working on. It sounds pretty much the same just newer parts. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/217992
-
(http://i41.tinypic.com/wv2237.png)
'Tis very awesome.
-
About the drum track, you made the intro less awkward, added some snare fills before the melody kicked in, and took out some cymbal crashes in the verses :P.
-
I love my synths. It has taken me a week to figure out how Hydrocity 2 works. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AL2SPN4V
It's missing a few things but i promise it'll get better from here.
-
Your synths have lots of static sound to them. If you used cleaner sounds I'd probably like it more.
-
I'd have to agree with Stefan.
You seem to have good potential with this, as it certainly is creative, but in the end this rendition simply sounds too noisy. Keep working at it!
-
It's a great song, lots of stuff going on!
But a bit messy, so I'm sure you'll know how to handle that.
-
Yeah. That was just too get the melody working. Now i will work on the song and effects.
-
Wow...bump is needed.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SGZ6R3FD
This one would be Flashman's Theme from Megaman 2. Sorry if there is crackling. I'm trying to sort that out.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QNRNFH4W
Continuing with Megaman 2 this is Metalman
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ON9UO8YK
And now we go back to the jungle. All of these are still Work in progresses.
-
Those are all great. :B Especially the Jungle theme...I picture chimps in tophats. XD
A new MIDI has appeared!
Another character based theme. I meant for it to have a similar feeling to E-102 Gamma's theme, but somewhere along the way it started sounding a bit like Polish disco. :P
-
I don't like it as much as glowsticks, but it's still a great midi. You're really developing your songwriting techniques; everything you write is sounding cohesive and.. complex, while not being "busy".
-
Oh wow....that struck me a chord. That is probably one of the best MIDI's i've heard in a long while. its funny how MIDIs work really. They helped me make this.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KSCNFCKF
-
Why thank you, dudes!
I just noticed this has a rather rainy feel to it, but that alright 'cause Balkaku's a rainy planet! *shot*
Nice work on the Apatos Day theme, really nice listening, since it's such an airy theme already.
MIDIs are great, too bad they can sound so limited at times. :/
-
also http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/236858
Anything i'm really missing from it?
-
:/ Can't tell that anything's missing, although you could try giving it a heavier drum line and see how that goes.
Pretty awesome though!
Since you make a lot of remixes, are they usually based from other MIDIs? Or do you do stuff by ear?
And I figure why not. I have 2 other MIDIs I can show.
Fountain is finished, I also managed to get a very good conversion for it>http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RF38XGKO
Balkaku is unfinished. Any suggestions for improvements for the drum line?
Edit: Since I can't figure out how to finish this [it's that fast ass drum line], I've attached my MIDI version I was making [so I could use it for piano] of Adabat's Day stage theme. Maybe one of you would like to do something with it.
-
Wow. Nice Work on the Adabat one. However yes it is missing the drumline. That is probably on of the defining features for Unleashed's music. Also the Glass/Bell's Pitch seems to be far off from the pitch scale. As how i get remixes. My ones from True Area 53 and before were all based off ear. Now its a combination of both. MIDIs imo is like cheating. Some, like the Apotos theme are "Examples". As in i put synths to them to get a listen of each individual part in the MIDI tracks. (Also WMP sucks for me as well >_>). Not to mention some parts in certain songs that use harmonies (chords, etc.) such as Thunder Tornado and Jewel Man (the pitch twangs) are too hard for me to distinguish and thus i use MIDIs (if i can find them) Oh WIly 3 from MM9 would be a good example.
Currently working on Jewel Man's theme.
also Egg Rocket: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZLTPA3TD
EDIT: Just realised that for the bells there may be two of them harmonizing.
-
I love that Unleash has music with such complex drumlines. Too bad you have to be some kind of music god to figure them out for yourself.
Funny thing, I happen to be better with chords than with individual notes, probably because chords have "feelings". XD
Good work for figuring out all those songs by ear. Must get frustrating. XD
Also, nice work on this Egg Rocket theme.
Hmm..I think I should get to that flute solo in Adabat, eh. Now that I think of it, do you think the whole song is playable on piano? I used piano to figure out everything, but for the parts where you hear more drum than anything else, do you think there's something that could be playable there?
-
I understand what you mean by feelings. Itwasn't really hard since the songs i made were all easy by ear. TA53 was hard enough. >_>
Not sure if it is playable on piano. I think there's 3 leads, a rhythm and a bass. I'll check it out soon enough. Save the drumline for last as i can't do it.

The offbeats have a high hat on them, and all the other 16th notes in there are some shaker instrument. Then the last eight beats of each phrase are crescendoing snares (with the old stuff still going on). And at the first beat of every four beat phrase has some tom or bongo on it. It shouldn't be too hard to replicate with that knowledge. :P
Here's a sample with a basic drumline added from how I hear it at least:
-
Okay yes i've confirmed your bell hits are off scale. I'm working on it now. Its starts at G3/4 not C4/5. (Your choice of octave :P)
EDIT: Here are the notes (since i don't use a MIDI editor or w/e):
G C D# D G# C D# D
A C F D# G# C D# D
That C is bolded/underlined as i think that may be th only off note that is there. And if you want to test this play http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2F4NXF03 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2F4NXF03) along with the JJ-D theme itself (intime obviously) to see. :D
2ND EDIT: Okay so Another problem with the original MIDI. The Gong/Glass Hit at the start is followed by the flute. But 2 beats after, not 1.
3RD EDIT: Okay so its D#.
4TH EDIT!!!: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SQXV7TU1 Is better than the old one.
This is getting melodies "by ear" people. :DDD
-
Excellent. I shall be making corrections pretty soon..
ZIS POST TO BE EDITED WITH ZE NEXT EDIT!
-
Actually after listening and comparing today the flute sounds a bit off as well. I shall research that as well!
-
I like taking popular songs and arranging them for small-band performances that I'd be able to do with some friends for school assembly performances and the like, and I decided to try Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". It turned out better than I expected.
-
Can only hear the bongos in that MIDI. Maybe the other instruments are too soft?
-
I hear the instruments fine, I think it might be your sound settings rather than the midi settings.
-
Sounds just fine.
Nice arrangement! It'd probably sound great with real instruments.
-
So I've got two songs I'm working on right now, and I think I've developed adequate instrumental backgrounds for both. I can hear a melody and a chorus for both of these songs, these midis are just wip instrumentals for them before I layer them with a melody and new parts to the songs. Any feedback on them? My goal is to make each song a good 3-ish minutes long and process them into good sounding mp3s so I can get closer to making "real" music instead of my usual zone of "sonic" music.
-
They're both good [with the second song sounding slightly more interesting, but that's just me], I have a suggestion though, does any other instrument work better than the lead in the second song? Sounds like you could try a different instrument there, but it's nothing major, eh.
The first one's great, obviously would be better with some different parts added in. :>
ALSO, has anyone else noticed that the flute solo in Jungle Joyride Day sounds just like the one in Sonic R's Regal Ruins?
-
Haven't played Sonic R so i don't know. :/
-
Neither have I, I just listen to the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uPzBpXtadQ It starts around 2:50.
Also, it sounds like there is snoring in Jungle Joyride Night. Is it?
-
Still havent tried to listen to that.
Thus don't listen to this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M5522O54
FYI: Wily Castle 2 from megaman 9. My friend (some wog) says it needs more bass. Comments?
-
I'd say it's perfect as it is. But sure, you could see how that extra bass goes.
-
It's funny, I think, that we post many MIDIs that stay unfinished. Well, I do that a lot And instead of finishing them we just make new ones!
New one here, this time a theme for 2 characters, but I'm always putting them together. Therefore, they shall share a song.
See what I did thar? Different instruments for the two.
-
Wow...that's an awesome composition. Both leads well put together. I wish i was that creative. :(
-
thread necromancy is a sin, but I have a new midi (uploaded mostly so groudon can take it)
-

I started making something for the last few hours or so (when I really should've been sleeping) that I haven't finished yet. Something like a teaser. It started out as a drum loop alternating from 5/4 to 7/4, but I never got around to it in the actual song!
Special Stage Sez... (http://caffeinelounge.net/files/uploads/Special%20Stage%20Sez....mp3)
Kinda sounded like a Sonic-y thing for the first part of it, but that might just be me.
Thoughts?
Edit: Link should be fixed now.

Sorry to say, but i am unable to listen to it. Opera says its an illegal url (rather, invalid it means) and Chrome just doesn't get it.
Now i have a pretty well made song now, with help from a Producer from Peru.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A9J4UKIL
Its in .ogg format, so use Audacity to convert it to .wav or something.
-
^ Sorry about that, the link's fixed now.
Listening to your track, it's really mellow. The layers of textures are subtle and blend in nicely. I think it might be a good headphone song, which I'll have to try later.
The melody that starts at 1:25 is good, but I think it needs some harmonic support. It's fine by itself, but imo it needs a progression underneath to spell everything out and make it pop. Just a thought.
also I can see why you called it Panning. :p
-
IsisDazs, that's a cool song, it's got that choppy action feel which would make it really good for a Sonic game.
Oi, this sounds great, Lux. The instruments all work together very nicely, and the melody is mellow but not boring. I should leave this on repeat for a while!
Some more background like IsisDazs said might be good.
Been a long time since I posted something, so why not... here, have some -unfinished- work:

Thanks, Cutiefox! I've tweaked and added more to it, but I'll re-post it when there's more to show.
I really hope you post up the finished versions of these tunes, since I got into both near immediately.
My favourite of the two is Song 7, it sounds like it's part of a game OST (reminiscent of a few games, including Sonic for a bit at the beginning). Balance is good, and it's pretty impressive sounding.
I also like Jungle. The beginning serves itself well - the drum track that only lasts a measure sets the scene of a jungle. (I'm also a fan of the sound used at :07, but I've no clue how to describe it.)
When the song really kicks in, it holds a nice, solid groove. The bassline on the piano is rockin', reminds me of jams I used to have (also reminds me a bit of Linus and Lucy). :D
My only beef is that I found the snare to be a little too loud when it entered. It was better when more instruments filtered in, but when it was just drums + bass, it was... off-balance + a little distracting.
What program(s) do you use, Cutiefox?

Double post, serving as a bump.
I've revised the song I posted previously and added a bit more to it.
Here you go! (http://soundcloud.com/isis-1-1/special-stage-sez)
I'm considering adding/learning how to pan, probably tweak the balance a bit more, etc. Thoughts?
