Halloween Topics! 1: Spookiet Game Experience
« on: October 27, 2015, 08:20:51 am »
This is Halloween we're talking about, and since Halloween is supposed to be a frightening holiday, we'll begin our topics with one I feel is kinda cliche; what's your spookiest game experience? This doesn't have to be something that happened to you in-game for it to be spooky. It doesn't have to be Sonic either.

Mine would still have to be playing version 5 of Sonic.exe back in September 2013. I promised my fans on YouTube that if I got to 100 subs by Friday the 13th, I would play Sonic.exe for them, and well, I think you can guess what happened. I downloaded it, and I played it, making a live reaction video to go along with it. I was trembling while playing that game, and the "I am God" jumpscare still haunts me to this day. I was half relieved, half disappointed that the game eventually crashed though, sucks that I didn't get to finish it.

If you can believe it, more than a year later I found myself playing Sally.exe!

What's your spooky game story?

New topic tomorrow!

Mine would be playing Spooky's House of Jumpscares (that title though). The only thing is, I've already known what was going to happen by then, but I get scared REALLY fast and that was still pretty "spooky" to me.

One shocking and scare like surprise I experienced in Sonic games is In Shadow the Hedgehog in the Lost Impact stage, I tried to speed running it once and even though I had rings on hand, I took an spooky instant death by spin dash jumping straight at the Special weapon crate head on. It shocked me out of my attempts. I didn't know that an instant death like that existed in the game. That's my Halloween topic answer.

my spookiest game experience is a toss up of between sonic boom and sonic 06.  glitches and falling though the floor isnt uncommon in sonic games, but these two gems are so bad that im convinced sega sent hitmen to get the play testers for these games, and I believe their spirits live on in our cds.

It got so bad at my house, that pictures would fly off the walls, I would hear footsteps in the middle of the night and I live by myself, sometimes I would find more beers missing than I drank.

I eventually burned both of these games and threw the ashes in the woods, and I havent had a problem sense then.

oh and silent hills P.T.

Going to take s&a's unfortunate experience on board and add it to my list of (many) reasons why I'd never own such games.

I remember as a kid being creeped out by Shadow of the Beast, for Megadrive. There was a place you could fall, where you were trapped. (kind of like the equivalent so S2's infamous Mystic Cave pit). Except, you were trapped because some creepy large pirate ship thing would stop just before it reaches you (which was against a far end wall). It would move, left-to-right forever, (impossible to bypass it) until you let it kill you (upon instant contact).

Silent Hill. I remember being allowed to start a file on that and it scared the shit out of me. It was the dogs that got me though. I really did not like those dogs.

I don't know why, but whenever I play Super Mario 64, I always wind up playing the Big Boo's Haunt stages at night. Not really scary, but I have no idea why I do that to myself.

ReDeads and Dead Hand in Ocarina of Time bothered me quite a bit. Not jumpscare type scary, but "don't get caught don't get caught OH FUCK MASH BUTANZ". I had a nightmare once where I was playing Ocarina of Time and doing the Bottom of the Well, and all of a sudden in the middle of the dungeon a cutscene started playing where Ganondorf appeared and caused the well to start flooding again and I had to get out, except some INCREDIBLY terrifying music started playing--worse than the Sonic drowning music. Woke up in a cold sweat.

Looking back on the game now, I think: Kakariko is drawing its water from a well that has a dungeon full of rotting dead corpses and decaying flesh at its bottom (plus acid, etc). How in the hell is everyone in that town not constantly getting horribly sick and dying from contaminated water? I guess that's a bit spooky. I'd like to bring that up to Miyamoto some time and see his response.

I had trouble with Launch Octopus and Shade Man back in the day. Sometimes no matter how I mashed I could not get X or Megaman free and they'd get drained to death. I haven't had a more helpless feeling against any boss I wasn't supposed to lose to.
My life needs a rewind/erase button.

hmm... speaking on super mario 64... (and this is also a true story) I remember being like 10 ~ 13 years old and I went up the "infinite" stairs to get to the last bowser level, with that hole to enter the stage and the pic of bowser on the wall.

it its like tradition that you kick the pic of bowser as a means to bounce off the wall and get into the stage.

but this one time I did it and the game corrupted, and im like 11 i dont know about corrupted w/e. so what happened when I kicked the pic of bowser is marios figure, like his whole body fell apart and kinda sucked into the ground, its like someone chopped him up with a machete. but that wasnt the kicker, at the same time the music glitched out also and for a lack of a better term started play something that sounded demonic.

in hindsight I cant say exactly what happened but it sounds more in line with the crooked cartridge glitch/debug, I think somehow is what I really experienced, it was really freaky though at the time.

Minecraft MOBS always jumpscare me. And I tend to scream loudly for a second when that happens.

Ahh... If I remember rightly you COULD kill the pirate ship... However it seemed to go left and right a few times and go to kill by not stopping. Also never going to bother to complete that game as I believe I could never do it...

Also, going to place my opinion... I don't play scary games so... Have not got much Experience. I remember playing minecraft. And seeing this black thing. (An enderman) and then attacking it... and it disappeared and I started walking again and suddenly it was just right in my face!

It killed me btw.
