Sonic CD Question
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:05:53 PM »
So I noticed in the Competition Rules that under Sonic CD:

Quote
* Activation of the Debugger game menus is not allowed.

Time Divisions
* The game's Time Attack mode is to be used for setting records.

Rings Divisions
* The game's Time Attack mode is to be used for setting records.

Score Divisions
* Scores must be attained in a single continuous run (without deaths).

Now, that's fine and dandy, but the new version of Sonic CD got me thinking about the score division in the old CD. What this currently implies is that it is ok for the purpose of score to travel across time zones and collect rings in the level to build up a score that can be higher than some of the current top scores. I know this definitely affects Tidal Tempest 2 because it is the only level that can't be finished in under 30 seconds. It might affect other levels as well if the level has more than ~550 rings (Could be any act in the first 4 zones) in total as long as they can be collected in 10 minutes.

So, is this legal? Or should the rules be amended to force the use of Time Attack in score as well? (I know people have pretty much abided to the whole Time Attack business for score, that's what it looks like anyway, but still, this is a question that needs answering nonetheless).

I'm assuming that scores should be obtained using time attack mode, in both the original and later versions of the game, but best to check with someone like Thorn or GerbilSoft. I agree that the competition rules should be amended to make this clearer. And if scores can be attained in the main game, I'm presuming that time travel is forbidden. Like I said before, double check with one of the authorities.

I had discussed this with Thorn when making the charts for SCD2011. The reason we have time traveling permitted for rings and scores in the later version was to make it consistent throughout the game, mainly because Tails can't use the time attack mode.

Also I did ask for the SCD2011 rules to go up since they're different to the older version but it still hasn't been done.

Rules
* Activation of the Debug mode is not allowed.

Time Divisions
* Use stage select for both characters.

Rings Divisions
* Use stage select for both characters.
* In Wacky Workbench 1 collecting rings from the angel statue doesn't count.

Score Divisions
* Use stage select for both characters.
* Scores must be attained in a single continuous run (without deaths).

Special Divisions
* The game's Time Attack mode is to be used for setting records as Sonic.

Heh, oh well, guess I was wrong earlier. So is time travel forbidden for SCD11 times, and should time attack be used for SCD scores?

I guess she answered them indirectly, and I'm pretty sure it's Time Attack for SCD scores and NO time travel for SCD11 times, but I was just double checking. I'm slightly obsessive compulsive, you see, always double checking things >_>

If the witness would kindly observe the following pieces of evidence:

Exhibit A
Exhibit B

As you can see, Time Travel is perfectly allowed in SCD11 Times, and the witness is mistaken Your Honour.

The More You Know®
But I'm still right about using time attack for the original SCD scores? Am I?

You don't have to use time attack for scores in SCD(SCD), no, at least not as the rules are written.

I'm assuming Time Travel was encouraged for SA. My only question there is why was it disallowed for rings, really... (TA makes sense because of record-keeping stuff, to match SA etc., I suppose)

It is in the Constitution!
I would make a relevant comment here but I still don't have SCD'11 :(
