I am NOT bothered wasting my time rather than racking some new records :/

Well then you're going to be banned and any new records you "rack" will be for nothing.

What apps, exactly?

Despite my problems with wireless internet, I've had very little trouble with any applications.
TBH, judging from my own research into and experience on the matter, any problems you had may well date back to Vista. Windows 7 is compatible with almost anything Vista is.
Also 32-bit or 64-bit?

http://sonicjam.wikidot.com/nsssp:speed-differences

I have to disagree a -lot- with their "speed ratings" on the s06 video. The ratings in turn make 3d sonic seem far more of an overclock/top haven than it really is (though it certainly has its fair share of that). Using the videos as an argument isn't very fair in the first place, either. One could try to demonstrate the opposite effect by speedrunning mh1 and taking his time on the s06 level to make it appear like 2d sonic is a more repetitive gameplay. Basically, I don't like this part of the website.

While I agree that their classifications are a bit skewed, I think the point is still entirely valid.
The player was actually going out of his way a bit to do what you mentioned (e.g. using that red spring in MH1) and the argument still stands. However, even if he did speedrun MH1 and go slow on the Sonic 06 level, I think you'd still find a predominance of accelerating/normal speeds in the former and top/overclock speeds in the latter, simply because the level designs force it, no matter what the player tries to do. You pretty much can't progress in a modern Sonic game without constantly going through speed pads and semi-scripted sections, unless you go out of your way to break the level (e.g. Windy Valley 2).

I thought the section on integrating obstacles was very observant. It actually was a very clever aspect of the level design of the classic games, and so subtle that I never even noticed it until this article pointed it out.

My attention span while using a computer is far too short for that. I switch around what I'm doing alot. I'd want to check forums or email quickly after a short while.

Proof of this is in the fact that I originally started typing out that reply, then got bored and closed the window.

I already hooked up a wired connection so fu lol

Anyway, while I'm sure dual boot is great for some people I am far, far too impatient for shit like that, and OS emulators/virtualboxes.

Okay, one thing I've found: using wireless internet is an absolute nightmare, at least on the 64-bit version. I was able to get my RALink card to work with alot of fiddling, but trying to use torrents will COMPLETELY freeze my computer, and after a few rounds of this I had to actually reinstall the OS from the disk.

I found out that it was the card so I'm using an ethernet cable through my window to the router downstairs (though I now can't even reinstall the drivers for the card). However, several hours of Google reveals that people having been having these problems since Vista 64-bit. Basically, NOBODY FUCKING MAKES RELIABLE 64BIT DRIVERS FOR PCI WIRELESS CARDS!!!!

Currently wondering if my housemates would mind an ethernet cable snaking round the entire house. Or wondering if a wireless bridge would work.

None of this will mean anything to you if you're not in a situation where you need to use wireless, or plan to use the 32-bit version, but there it is.

Also I'm actually really impressed by how fast it shuts down, lol. Takes literally seconds.

One thing to note about Windows 7 is that it's actually specifically designed to work well on low-spec systems (e.g. netbooks) too, so even if your computer's ancient you should consider at least giving it a go.

On a side note, does anybody know how to make the Start Menu Programs rollout behave like it did before?

FUCKING FIXED IT YES
Found some random forum post that suggested manually pointing it to the driver file on the CD and it worked! My new computer is now FULLY GLORIOUS
Specs because I just that chuffed that I actually put this together today and it actually works and now I FINALLY don't have to put up with a gimped computer anymore like I have been for the past 4 years!
InteL Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (I will OC this when I feel the need and have the confidence).
6gb DDR3 1600mhz Corsair RAM (this is technically incompatible with the motherboard as it doesn show up under the Computer properties, but it's definitely performing)
Radeon HD 4770 graphics
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4 motherboard
1TB Samsung Spinpoint HD (was going to get a Raptor for OS drive but they're not actually any faster than this)
Antec Truepower New 650W PSU
Old Sony DVD RW drive I took from a spare dinosaur computer
All in an Antec 300 case

Awesome. It's amazing just being able to watch HD Youtube videos!

So I have my new computer with Windows 7 now.

Overally it seems pretty good so far but one major flaw is that I can't use anything but 4x3 display resolutions!

Windows updates, driver updates, and even downloading an application to force it have all achieved nothing. Not that I expect it but does anyone have any ideas? Monitor is a Samsung 2232BW and GFX is ATI Radeon HD4770.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Awesome.

The release of the RC is nicely timed for me as I will finally be getting a new computer within the next couple of weeks, and not having to pay for an OS means I can spend more on parts.

I haven't tried it myself, yet, but I've heard nowt but good things about the beta so hopefully the RC will be even better.

Yeah but he didn't have any personality when he was alive either. Fangirls think "mysterious" and "bishy" are valid personality traits but they're not. He's vaguely tortured but that's it.

Also I loled when I saw Kefka's final form and realised just how much Sephiroth ripped the whole thing off (not to mention the near cut-and-paste plot of the whole game).

I'm derailing the thread, so, uh, hey, you know who else is a great villain?

DAMON MOTHERFUCKING GANT THAT'S WHO.

Seriously, out of all the villains in all the Ace Attorney games, he scared me most. Even more than fucking Von Karma. That fucking stare...

I will second that vote (?) for Kefka. I finished FFVI for the first time a couple of months ago and finally understand why so many people who love VI hate VII.

Sephiroth has motivation for what he does but no personality whatsoever. Kefka is the opposite, no motivation but LOADS of personality. VII substituted entertainment for melodrama and a "deep" storyline. I know which I'd pick now.

My Dad vs. Yours - Habla Paisano
http://www.last.fm/music/My+Dad+vs+Yours/_/habla+paisano

That was pretty pleasant, though didn't really strike me as anything really special. However, it does kind of suit the weather I'm seeing outside right now, so good on ya.

I spent all yesterday evening listening to remixes of Dancing Mad, so here's one that people may not be familiar with (not a Youtube link either, sorry).

virt & ailsean - Dancing Mad Once Again
http://www.ailsean.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=26 (click the "Click here to Download File" text).

It's pretty short and doesn't cover the final tier, but it has my very favourite rendition of the 3rd tier section, so make sure you listen that far.

Votum Stellarum by Iconoclasm (DJ Taka and some other guy (wac, I think))
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XP2dK_vrDI
There's also a mediafire link if you like it enough.  And as for the video part, it uses Beatmania clips of the original song though this remix only appears in Pop'n Music and some later DDR versions.

Yesss Votum Stellarum is some nice shit. Kind of makes me wish I still played IIDX, but I stopped getting better at it, couldn't justify the time anymore, and the KOC pisses me off. I hadn't heard this rather excellent remix before. It's rather excellent.

I'm actually listening to Corn Mouth (or Carn Marth) by Aphex Twin as I type this, but I can't find a good version on Youtube, so here's Girl/Boy Song from the same album instead.

And because I forgot some:
S1GG
Best: Sky Base
Worst: <_< >_> Green Hill
(Even Green Hill isn't all that bad in this game ... IMHO the Game Gear version has better music than the Genesis version.  Cue brickage.)

How can you talk about S1GG music without mentioning Bridge Zone?

I cba to give my own list. But whoever said Sandopolis's music sucks is dumb.

55
It appears as though he did (The bolded are detailed):
"Sonic 2 and S3K were very good, S3DB was great too, Sonic CD was pretty good (one of the only games with peel out dash instead of just the spin dash, Peel Out Dash was the up-B and spindash was the down-b), SA2B is hot (Chao garden was much easier here than SA1 (by over 9000 stars), levels were well thought (I only hated the Tails missions, Eggman missions powns Tails, Knuckles and Rouge levels were pretty good, Knuckles is better, I like Shadow more than Sonic, but Sonic has the Bounce ring which is very helpful). Sonic Unleashed is pretty nice for the 360 not one of the best but it has a good value. SAdv1 and 3 also were the best GBA sonic games. I like 2 as well but the Special Stage is harder than both 1 and 3, which is really bad then. I want to get Rush as I hear that is really good."

What Alondite said. Saying it's "pretty good", "hot", or "pretty nice" is neither detailed, meaningful, nor in-depth. It is a subjective viewpoint, which is all well and good, we all have them as well as a right to express them, but don't try to claim it's a detailed or valuable.

56
You didn't go into detail, you just listed loads of games without saying anything meaningful about a single one of them (giving an explanation of how to do a spin-dash and a super peel out does not constitute "meaningful").

That said, I don't see why anybody would pick on Eis in this thread with Cort_pso running rampant like he has been.

Season of the Samurai

A bit repetitive but overall pretty good. Listenable, as much as that's a fuzzy term to use.

I'm going to be a little different and post TWO things! One being the last track I listened to and another from something I've been obsessed with lately.

Dobkeratops is only a minor boss. :B
But then again it's not like you have any better characters to use.

Also now I am reminded of how awesome R-Type Final almost was. I think I'm going to play Gradius V some more.

On second thoughts, make that R-Type III. FUCK YEAH.

Also here's something I doodled a while ago for a "mash together the two games you played last" thread on /v/, since it's relevant to this thread now.

So, Watchmen. Who saw it? I did, at the BFI Imax last night.

It was alright, about as good as I could've expected really.

I liked:
Dan, The Comedian, Rorschach, and Laurie were all pretty well portrayed, Dan in particular looked exactly as he did in the comic.
Uuuuh, it looked good?

I didn't like:
Standard Hollywood acting. very few of the readings of the lines felt natural (in particular, Jon's actor felt like he was going for an overly obvious "spaced-out" way of talking, which wasn't really reflected in the comic).
Sally Jupiter was too young and healthy-looking.
Adrian was a god-damn loser.
Too much fucking CGI. Every god damn shot.
That said, they could've used it to do the Comedian's scar properly. It just looked wimpy without extending his mouth.
I was sick of the FASTFASTFASTssssssssssllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooow style of editing action scenes by the end of 300. Is this Zack Snyder's "trademark" now?

These are mostly nitpicks, though. Overall it was decent.
