Guys, rather than stating -all- your favourites, how about you pick one and discuss why/why not with people? Because I'm the only one that has suggested it, Cave Story is clearly too underground to be enjoyed!

I'd Race SRA. That's probably it other than the occassional games that are already on the list.

Very Improbable is a huge understatement. 1.4% chance of doing such a thing, then spreading it for the 10+ legendaries you can catch in the game? what's 0.014^10? Almost 0. You'd have more chance winning jackpot off of 6 number Keno.

So i just beat the Champion, i really need challenge mode because I was severly underleveled, and i still won :U
Bolt (Jolteon)* - Level 53
Luke (Lucario) - Level 49
Bertha (Ferrothorn) - Level 48
Pidgeot (Unfezant) - Level 40
Maxie (Samurott) - Level 48
Sol (Volcarona) - Level 60

Tanking Bertha and Sol was all i needed to do for Iris. But that *SPOILER*Lapras out of fucking nowhere was a massive troll. Thank fuck that was easily dealt with. Right now, gonna be selling out to movies, then onto other quests!

Imo, the game is too easy compared to the first b/w games, I also find it to be quite glitchy at times...
Btw, I caught every legendary in the game with a pokeball without cheats, without damaging the pokemon and without making them fall asleep, etc True story.
Glitchy? The game has been far from glitchy in my experience.
Also if you're going to lie like that make it more obvious that you're joking. The mechanics of the game would make it damn near impossible for that to happen for every legendary in the game.

So now that the game is out in english, who has picked it up and what are your impressions? I'm loving it, though I'm finding it a tad too easy; 8 Badges and i'm tanking through level 50s with a bunch of mid-40s. I really need to find someone to give me the key to unlock challenge mode. So anyway, my current team:
Bolt (Jolteon)* - Level 49
Luke (Lucario) - Level 48
Bertha (Ferrothorn) - Level 46
Pidgeot (Unfezant) - Level 34
Maxie (Samurott) - Level 47
Sol (Volcarona) - Level 54
*Special Defense IV of 31, was trying to evolve it to Umbreon, but by level 31 and the 6th gym, I needed something to power through Skyla, and it hadn't evolved. I guess there's always breeding as an option!

I'm trying to raise Sol to 60 so i can get Quiver Dance and Heat Wave so he can just plow through the E4. Bertha is my wall; She stops everything but fire, and knows Curse/Ingrain, so take that physical attacks. Unfezant is rather useless, i am tempted to try and grab an Ice type, but cannot decide.

Anyway, discuss away!

One thing to add, if you're planning on using an Emulator and the games are still hosted on Speed runs live, you'd better get some streaming equipment as they require you to stream.

And I agree, we should try using Umbreons suggestion this saturday and see how it goes.

You don't have to stream. I was watching a Pokemon Crystal bingo race and someone didn't stream (they soon dropped out afterwards)

We don't have to give away the game, just say if we can use an emulator.
Races usually adhere to site rules. So yes, use an emulator. I don't know why I need to be answering this because it should be common lore.

81
That makes a lot of sense. I say no one here can touch his times, and I'm insulting him.

Seems legit.

Well, I misinterpreted what you meant. Next time, please be a bit ore clear to what you mean, since what you say can be twisted into many meanings.

Quote
I mean let's be completely honest here Romulo, who are you competing with on TSC for S3K time records? You're beating old times, there is no direct competition...

...there would be no competition for your spot because no one with the same skill set is even messing with S3K right now.

Someone needs to practice comprehension.

Competition Central / Re: Sitewide Points - Leadership Bonus
« on: September 15, 2012, 03:30:43 am »
I agree with this. Only problem I see is like... 3DBlast Rings or S1 Special where 800 people get it because it's easy, then it gets weighted because a ton of people are in it.

Nothing wrong with circle jerking. If everyone benefits from it, no-one truly benefits for it. Because it's essentially a non-chart if everyone has it.

83
I see your point. However, if we were to relocate the Super divisions into the regular Times category, the chart would become too big. Besides, there's already an existing category tracking Super characters times but without the competition weight, so it's way easier for the admins (namely Gerbil) to rename it Super and establish the competition weight needed. When I said "making the charts more consistent" I meant that since we have Super divisions with competition value in S4, we should apply the same concept to the MD/Gen games, although the easiest process is the one I mentioned above.
Renaming categories like that doesn't work. He'd have to make a new one named Super, then divisions, then the charts themselves. The name "Freestyle" is always going to be reserved for some reason (I suggested they use it for Skill Times in Generations, because it was very apt, but it still didn't happenubersuxbtwkthx). Though I agree, it does need to be in it's own category as, i did mention above, the times category would be bloated and ugly, in fact, we've seen it happen before.

84
Do note, for a new category of times, you're giving new sitewide points to the person who can TA with a Super character better, which will usually be the person that can TA a regular character better. Extra points for doing it with different characters would inflate the points that the best are getting by a largeish factor (since s2-3&k are heavily weighted). We don't want to give out extra sitewide points for no extra reason. While more characters in the Times Division would make the charts more bloated, they would still be weighed appropriately in the leadership bonus.

My intentions in adding Super charts are just to make TSC charts more consistent, not to "monopolize" rankings. I think of this measure as a way to stimulate competition, as you have one more variable to deal with. about the weight of the charts, I don't know exactly how the weight system works, but if you mean that Super charts should have less weight than normal charts, then it would be no problem for me.

Well then if you're going for consistancy, follow S4's lead and have them in the Time Category o.o

Competition Central / Sitewide Points - Leadership Bonus
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:38:42 pm »
This topic has come up in the past, and since activity is starting to boom again on this site, I would like to bring up our sitewide formula.
Quote
√(maximum points / number of charts) × (10 × (fractional percentage)3 + leaderships + 2 × championship)

While I do like how it parabolically curves out as the chart gets more popular, there's one particular part of it that doesn't sit right with me; The leadership bonus.

For those reading that don't quite understand this formula, basically, if you take a leadership in a game's category, you are rewarded with points based on how many submissions and how many charts a game has. The championship bonus is 2 times the leadership amount, however i feel that this misrepresents the way certain categories are submitted to. Games that have hefty weighting and with categories that have far, far less activity/competition are rewarded heavily for little for less competition (One prime example I can think of from the top of my head is SRA Extra).

So, I propose that the formula be changes so that the leadership bonus that is awarded gives points equal to √(maximum points of that category / number of charts in that category). This will make more competitive categories pay off more than smaller and less active categories.

86
To clarify, do you mean Super and Hyper would be lumped together (but there would still be three Super/Hyper categories for the three characters), or that it would all be lumped into a single category?

The Super category would have one division per character (2 for S2, 3 for S3&K)

Do note, for a new category of times, you're giving new sitewide points to the person who can TA with a Super character better, which will usually be the person that can TA a regular character better. Extra points for doing it with different characters would inflate the points that the best are getting by a largeish factor (since s2-3&k are heavily weighted). We don't want to give out extra sitewide points for no extra reason. While more characters in the Times Division would make the charts more bloated, they would still be weighed appropriately in the leadership bonus.

Question: what do people think about tracking rings as Super Sonic only in S2? As people would know when Sonic reaches 50 rings and jumps he turns Super automatically. I just wondered if that was worth tracking since it would be some taing on the side.

Rolken has suggested this in the past, perhaps it should be thrown in for discussion.

Quote from: Proxima
S3&K is daunting enough already -- you have to replay each level with three characters as well as having three divisions to compete in. If you're going to add Super, I suppose it would have to be Super for all three, and why not Hyper while we're about it? That would drain all the fun out of competing.
Having Super/Hyper charts for scores and especially rings would be ridiculous as you would perform the exact same for all categories (or even divisions depending on how it's split) except for the very end when you transform.

(the only major difference between Super and Hyper is Hyper Sonic's air dash move)
Don't forget all the glitches and wall zips that come with that air dash, it's more than different enough.
