Suggestions? / TUSC To Do List
« on: June 06, 2008, 03:50:48 am »
Right then, figured its about time we got one of these going as theres a number of things in need of attention, most of which will require help from Gerbil so it would be best to ask him nicely at some point when he isnt busy

1) Forum ops for Sondow and Rick over the Unofficial Competition Central boards

2) Removal of Sonic 2 Ultimate from the rankings. Seriously, what the Christ was I thinking when I added that

3) Enabling of video submissions to TUSC

4) Hosting of a few of TUSC's games due to them not being hosted anywhere else

5) Correcting the problem with TUSC's sitewide points

6) Compiling a list with links to each of TUSC's current games

7) Be on the lookout for more potentially worthy games

That ended up being longer than I expected, hax. In terms of Point 6, we likely have links to them already dotted over the place, I think its about time we had a proper dedicated place for them for ease of use.

TUSC News / BOING!
« on: May 12, 2008, 06:05:30 pm »
As you may have noticed, a large amount of new games have been added to TSC :O

Sonic 1 Bouncy!

A hax where Sonic bounces. All the time. Its quite fun, controls listed in the youtube video description.

Sonic 1 Return to the Origin!

A hack by carretero, whom some of you may recognise as the chap that discovered a lot of the more recent S1 TAS tricks. In this hack Sonic begins each level at the end and has to work his way back to the start.

Super Sonic 1
Thorn EDIT: Puto's name for this was "The S Challenge". Pay no attention to the blathering RPG.

Super Sonic in Sonic 1. I believe that says it all. Made by Pu7o, and unfortunatly I couldn't find a link, which is why you'll have to make do with that MegaUpload link for now until Ive asked Gerbil if he'd mind hosting it.

Sonic 1 Difficult Delusions!

Er yeah this is my hack >_>. Rick requested it, direct all complaints towards him. I made the Marble Boss a bit easier though, and fixed some problems throughout the levels. And the Point Markers are easier to find now too~ Rom attached to this post~

Sonic 2Z

Mystic's hack of Sonic 2, ramping up the difficulty quite a tad. You may have noticed I am getting quite tired of writing these little decriptions, I advise playing the game >_>

Sonic 2 Delta II v1.0a, and Sonic 2 Ultimate!

Both of these games can be found at the above link, S2U is a simple physics hack, unfortunatly, as most of the altered levels were never finished and are thus unbeatable, which is quite a shame from how impressive Metropolis was looking. S2D2V1.0a on the other hand adds several levels to the already large amount existing in S2, and tweaks some of the older levels, most notably the changing of the amount of rings in each level. And new characters/character setups!

When Tails Gets High

Or, When Thorn Gets Bored. Physics hack of S2 making Tails epic. Not currently hosted anywhere at present so Ill be asking Gerbil nicely at some point.

Thorn EDIT: I swear, I didn't ask him to do this...

And lastly, Sonic 2 Armageddon! Which I am currently not linking because I seem to have played two different versions of it lately and I have no idea which is the right fucking one, so Ill be asking MK soon.

Get cracking kiddos :o

Gaming and Grazing / Magic the Gathering Sealed...thing...yeah...
« on: February 22, 2008, 09:12:12 am »
Ok well, I've given this a little thought and bounced the idea off of mike and he approved of this, though he's not going to post his thoughts till hes awake and cpnscious at the same time.

Basically, my opinion of MWS is that its fantastic, but it has one real, major downside (which mike agrees with): You have everything available to you.

Now I can see why most people wouldn't view that as a downside, but I'll tell you why I do. It takes out the fun of having to use only what you have available (as in a limited card pool and not like infinite copies of every card ever) to build the best deck you can. For example, I have a Pokemon TCG deck that I will go on record as saying as the best TCG deck I have ever made, because I assembled it from the ground up over a period of about 6 years, collecting cards for it here and there until I eventually made it into the brutal, energy sucking deck I have today. And I love playing with it, because of all the effort that went into making it, which is something that just churning out decks with MWS (As fun as it is) just doesn't do.

However, I have a solution to this, or there wouldn't be much point to the topic. MWS has a sealed deck generator function, and I'd like to propose a sort of..well, its not a tourny, not a league, more or less just a fun thing to do for the Magic players among us that feel like doing something different.

Basically, we'd use the sealed deck generator to give us our card pool first, Im thinking one  Starter and then 5 Booster packs (This gives us 112 cards to build a deck with, though I dont see any  reason why people who dont get enough land like this shouldnt be allowed to ad in more if they need it, providing they only add basic lands). For the Starter I'd like to use Fifth Ed, because Fifth Ed has some really nice cards in it that are overlooked by people that play Extended, which a lot of us here play solely. As for the boosters, I'm unsure, but Im thinking a Ravnica, ColdSnap, Ninth Ed, Lorwyn and Urza's Saga (Because Urza is awesome.)

Now then, we'd then select the cards we want in our deck and play each other with them.
Winners receive 5 "points" and the loser receives 2. Using these points we'd then "buy" more boosters. I'm thinking that different boosters would have different costs, like a Beta booster should cost more "points" than, say, a Ninth Ed booster because of the possibility of getting some really epic cards.

Obviously we'd also be able to "trade" cards with each other and stuff. Now this obviously relies heavily on people being honest with each other, but for the majority of TSC I don't really see that as a problem.

As for rules, I'd say that we don't ban any specific cards, as a) this'll be for fun and b) chances are people won't be getting terribly broken cards very easily. I'd also like to allow using 4 copies of Restricted cards in decks too, as again, the chances of someone getting 4 Black Lotus' doing this is incredibly low and if they do manage to get more than one they should be allowed to use it.

The only cards I'd say that should be ommitted are the UN-series, if only because most of them can only be realistically used in an actual game.

So to recap and summarise, this is how my idea would work for those interested.

Generate a sealed deck with:
- 1 Fifth Ed Starter
- 1 Urza's Saga Booster
- 1 Cold Snap Booster
- 1 Ninth Ed Booster
- 1 Lorwyn Booster
- 1 Ravnica: City of Guilds Booster
- Any additional basic land you require.

- The only banned cards from this are the UN-sets.
- You are permitted to have up to 4 copies of any nonb& card
- Any cards you may acquire that have "Banding" in their rule text, you ignore the Banding ability.

- A booster from a set legal in extended costs 5. (Any set up to Invasion)
- Boosters from Prophecy to Tempest cost 10.
- Boosters from Weatherlight to Antiquities cost 15.
- Alpha/Beta/Unlimited/Arabian Nights boosters cost 20.

Then, using these cards you build yourself a deck, though I recommend leaving the cards you dont use in your sideboard for easy checking.

I'd imagine that some people might not be able to make a deck of 60 immediatly, or may choose not to, as such Im proposing a minimum deck of 40, and a maximum deck of 60, until you have X amount of cards or something.

Winning a match against someone nets you 5 Points, and a loss nets you 2.
You then use these points to buy more boosters. The costs of boosters is undecided, but it would probably best if someone with good magic knowledge (like Spinny or SM) could help out here.

I also have another idea for this to discuss with just Spinny at some point, but for now Im saying no more, but it would spice things up. Hopefully this might generate either some new interest in Magic/something fun to do for those of us tiring of it, as well as provide some general fun for those of us that play seriously~

So, thoughts?

Wikkity! / ITT we heartily showcase our love for balls
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:47:21 pm »
Deep down we all love balls and respect them a great dea;, mmmballs, lets look at some and have an insight towards their culture, shalln't  we

Here are some baby balls

A ball in its natural habitat

The balls true form, rarely seen due to their shy nature and tendancy to fear humans

A ball in a rare case of  interacting with a human

This particular ball died many thousands of years ago but its skeleton has stood the test of time

Balls have been persecuted for their entire lives, which is highly sad, here is some proof of the racism and violence balls face on a daily basis.

Also boobies

I personally am opposed to all forms of violence towards balls. Some sick people even hunt them for sport.

Just when you thought it would never happen!

This is, assuming it even gets underway, going to be a test tournament (Mike wants to run a Daft Tourny) to see the rough amount of interest available.

Due to the not particularly hueg amount of interest we (being mike and me) expect, we has a format that'll cater to this, which I'll post once we have some sign ups.

Also yeah I wont fuck this up like the pokemon one 'cause a) I wont throw in nonsensical rules and b) mikes helping >_>

Also link to the program we're using: Magic WorkStation

No, I'm not shamelessly trying to get more things to add to TUSC, I just figured it might be interesting to hold another level design contest!

I'll post the basic concept I had, as this wont be the same as the previous one, assuming theres enough interest. Nor will I be entering, I will be a judge (:O) as well as Thorn once I rope him in if he doesnt want to make levels >_>

I might make a level if I become inspired though

Anyway, the categories!

Most challenging level.
Cheap level design does not count

Fastest level.
The Jungle Coaster effect~

Best remake of a 3D level.
'Cause Green Forest was a bit pants really

I forgot what the fourth category I thought of was.
If I remember maybe Ill write it down

Ill link to the program itself if required

Anyone care/interested?

Rules Revisions / SRA Emerald Races
« on: November 14, 2007, 08:22:27 pm »
<bitch>

So yeah I had to be -told- that you can rematch Johnny via the Viking Cup because I never saw the piddly arrow pointing down to the races underneath Wave Cyclone 2.

As such I boated all the way out to each spot and raced him like that. As such Im not pleased with the amount of time this wasted but I digress.

So basically, racing him in the Bullshit I mean Viking Cup forces you to use the nonupgraded bike which is Hella slow and also makes the Purple Emerald near impossible. Oh and it makes Scores boring because you cannot afford to boost through enemies because you'll fall behind and lose.

Whereas boating out to him lets you use your fully upgraded bike, which allows for faster times and higher scores to be obtained which is what TSC has been about for the past ever, right? Right. And also once you actually get to him you can rematch him an infinite number of tries until you return to the island anyway.

Competition Central / <<<~***SRA Challenges~***>>>
« on: October 08, 2007, 07:59:09 am »
Because I can or something.

Im going to assume that you guys know the basic format of ye olde SA2B Challenges, but just in case Im going to dig them up so the rest of you arent completely in the dark.

SRA Challenges will have you performing various tasks within levels, often extremely unconventionable, and according to how well you do, you are assigned a letter rank and then awarded a number of points. There are two types of challenge: Fixed Rank and Competition. Fixed Rank has set boundaries for each Grade (Well duh) whilst Competition is an 'every-man-for-himself' type affair, where the best player gets the top rank.

Got all that? Good, here are the Points for each rank~

S: 5 Points
A: 4 Points
B: 3 Points
C: 2 Points
D: 1 Point
E: 0 Points
F: -1 Point*

*Grade "F" will only be used for Competition challenges as the rank for the Player in last place if there are a lot of Players. If there isnt, it wont be used.

All challenges are to strict deadlines, no allowances will be made unless a genuince reason is given in advance. For example, Player A will be out of town for a week, and will miss a challenge. If they inform me in advance, they can have a little extra time after the deadline of the challenge to 'catch up' and do the challenge. No other exceptions will be made. You have been warned.

I will not be posting a challenge to do just yet, this is effectivley the sign up period. If enough people post and express interest, then Ill start, if not Ill just let this topic slide off the front page of the board <_<

Leaderboard Disputes / RPGNUTTER'S CONFESSIONS (TM)
« on: September 04, 2007, 01:10:30 pm »
Right well, I have no idea how to start this so here goes.

In short, my conscience has something it wants to get off its chest.

A percentage of my stats in Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are not entirely truthful. Im not going to defend myself or try to justify it in any way, simply that mike (Because hes unidleat the time of writing) or one of the other admins nuke all of my stats in both of those games.

I don't expect this deed to go unpunished by any stretch, What I've done is unacceptable by TSC's standards and rules and deserves full punishment, irregardless of my member rank and status around here.

Well, now I've gotten that off my chest I actually feel a lot better. I'd like now to apologise to everyone, not only for doing this in the first place, but those that respected me and believed me to be a great player, even perhaps looked up to me as someone to aim for on the rankings of not just Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 but all of the games on the site. While I have no way to prove to anyone else the rest of my stats on the site, I will not profusely protest that they are all truthful, I mean, who'd take my word now heh? If all my stats are to be deleted then so be it, it is just.

I know I had something else I wanted to say but I can't for the life of me remember what-ah, TUSC.

In the event of my admin status over TUSC being revoked, I would simply ask that a suitable replacement be found as quickly as possible so that Thorn isn't landed with managing the subsite by himself.

TUSC News / Oh snap.
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:51:03 pm »
So basically, there has been an update to S1T over at Hacking Cult which fixes the majority of the bugs in the game, Ive been trying it out a little and to my delight it doesnt appear to freeze in the middle of levels anymore.

HOWEVER.

That glitch that gives you infinite flight and speeds you along when you fly just above the top of the level? Its gone. Flying above the top of the screen is still possible, just you dont get propelled forward and you cant jump and begin flying again.

As such, anyone who used this glitch to achieve their times -MUST- replace their stats immediatly. I dont remember which levels I used it in aside from SL2, so Im nuking all of mine and re-TAing them at a later date.

Minor Edit: Apart from Labyrinth 1 and 3, Scrap Brain 3 and Final Zone, because they have ceilings so there is no way I could've used it there <_<

As well as a game for consideration, which can be summed up with the following two lines:

TUSC News / Sonic 1 Megamix 3.0 is out!
« on: July 01, 2007, 10:43:51 pm »
Not only this, its also been added to TUSC :O

For those not in the know, heres Rolks brief summary and Tweakers comments on the hack, because they explain its awesomeness far better than I ever could.

Version 3.0 of Sonic 1 Megamix has been made public. For those not In the Know, Megamix is basically the best Sonic hack ever made; better than most official releases. Seriously. Tweaker's comments from the Megamix topic follow:

Some highlights from version 3.0:

- All level layouts edited (some complete; others pending)
- Each character now has a unique set of moves (though Sonic and Shadow share homing attack)
- Most levels (not all) have a small intro, ala S3K, where they perform some sort of action when starting the level. i.e, running in from the left.
- Shitload of music edits
- There is now a "preferences" screen, where you can customize certain aspects of the game (suggestions are welcome)
- Cheat codes have been changed - figuring them out will grant you access to a new, special level select (which is a bit buggy - just don't hit left/right on zone selections =P)
- "Original Mode" allows you to play the original levels from Sonic the Hedgehog, using all of the additions from Sonic Megamix (such as bugfixes, moves, preferences, etc). There is also a seperate save slot for a character's original mode.
- Title screen demos have been edited. Credits demos have not.
- Super forms have been added.
- Elemental shields, ala S3K, have been added.
- Credits have been edited; each character has a unique end pose on the ending sequence.
- Various other changes. See the Wiki page for more info.

This is, pending future changes, considered a "complete" release. Future changes are planned, but not assured. More information can be found on the Manual/Wiki page, located here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_1_Megamix

Comments and suggestions are entirely welcome. Bugfix releases are entirely possible, so if you find what could be considered a vital "bug" (and not, say, an error from using debug mode), it may be fixed in a future bugfix release (though personally I'd like to avoid making too many of these).

So, without further delay, the download link: http://www.fileden.com/files/15774/Sonic%201%20Megamix%20v3.0.zip

Happy competing :O

EDIT: Just a heads up. Apparently therell be  bugfix/layout tweak release in the near future, all stats in altered levels, or all stats if the characters themselves are altered, will be nuked~

Failure to comply with this simple set of rules will result in an instant loss of the battle your involved in, regardless of the outcome, and a warning given. Except in the event of the final rule listed. Two warnings and your out the competition, simple stuffs.

For the battles themselves.

Battles will be fought on a best of 3 basis. Two singles, and then a double battle for the tiebreaker should both players have a win each.

A win earns a player 3 points, a draw earning both players 1 point and a loss scoring 0.
Draws forced by SelfDestructing/Exploding/Destiny Bonding/Perish Songing on the last Pokemon will be ruled as a victory in favour of the player who did not use said moves to force the draw.

Moving on, the brackets, randomly allocated thanks to Stefan! :o

THE BRACKET IS NOW NOT FULL. However the Tournament is underway.

ROUND ONE

Red line indicates those players who will be dropped after each person in the round has played everyone else in the group.

ZE RULES

#1. Levels are to be rounded to 50.

#2. Battle summaries are to be posted, at the minimum, all it needs to state is the Pokemon used by each player, and the order they were KOed, however feel free to go into greater depth.

#3. You may only use THREE of your Pokemon for the group stages. You are however permitted to change the three you use when fighting another player in the same group. The double battle tiebreaker matches will be fought with FOUR Pokemon.

After this is done, the player with the lowest amount of points overall will receive the booby prize. If multiple players are tied for this, there will be a mini play off for it.

And then;

THE KNOCKOUT STAGES

Yeah. Basically, I am creating my own version of Pokemon Sappire by hacking an exsisting ROM, egads.

Essentially, I dont think I can do this by myself, because for one I fail at sprite editing, so first and foremost, Im looking for a sprite artist.

Just post here to apply and maybe give me an example of some of your work, I may hire more than one if there are tons of you awesome folk out there.

Secondly, I could do with someone thats awesome at shifting around the events and whatnot, as well as someone pro with hex, for editing the Pokemons names and such (The program I have thats designed to edit their names completely fails and messes the whole ROM up).

So yeah, any takers?

Also Stefan you are automatically drafted up as a "Namer". >_>

Im having a hard time believing that anyone can dodge all of the bullshit in Act 4. Also Im not sure there are even that many rings in the level.

Lots of my Hard and Expert high scores were set in Quick Play mode, so until I find out how to access those high score tables without having to just beat the song, it will be a while before I put all those scores up. Although there are some songs I refuse to try and beat again on Expert so Ill just post the only score I have for them X)
