Competition Central / Randomness in Advance Ring Boxes?
« on: May 18, 2015, 10:51:03 am »
Hello. I've recently been trying to figure out how the randomness in the ring attacks work, so I've been looking into it a bit. Especially in Egg Rocket. The randomness seems to have multiple factors, and I wonder if anyone else knows how it works, before I go further into researching it?

My current experiences with them are as such:

-You can always get a 40 ring box if you get into the first timed part at around 13 or 14 seconds and hit the ring box once the original timer would pass 20 seconds. Meaning with the timing I just described, you'll automatically get a 40 ring box, since hitting the change of scenery will trigger the timer to change at about 20 seconds.

-If you get really fast to the second ring box and wait 3 minutes, it will still give you the same amount of rings: 10 Rings. This also happens if you wait for 3 minutes (or any amount of time) without hitting any red springs. I assume that the first thing that randomizes rings in egg rocket is the scenery and timer change, which would also mean that there is some sort of pattern behind it that i don't quite understand.

Things that don't seem to be changing the randomization of rings is the amount of rings you have and killing enemies. At least, as far as I could tell.

This is not correct, however, if you die during a stage. Since that randomizes boxes again.

TL;DR There's a way to always get 40 rings in the first box of Egg Rocket and I assume that hitting the red springs (and possibly other things) randomizes rings with possibly a pattern. Randomization only happens after triggering it and waiting a certain time.

So since everybody is probably tired of that old thread by now, here's a new one.
If you have anything you want to improve TSC with and rally people for, go ahead.
This is your new chance to maybe change something in TSC, or at least attempt to start changing it.

Beef / Racenights Discussion
« on: April 13, 2015, 05:33:23 pm »
Hello there, dear TSC visitors. I have decided to create this topic as an open way to have people talk about RaceNights and its current status. As it is, the mods are in a huge dispute and want to kick each other out of the mod status, and I thought i would bring this here, since it should concern some people.

I will keep my opinion of the Mods out of this as of this moment and just want to ask you guys, what do you think is Race Nights supposed to be, and are you happy as they are now.

That's about it, as I feel that talking about the mods themselves would be too personal, let's keep it about the RaceNIghts themselves. I'm about done hearing just about stupid drama, so please, try to keep your posts as much about the races themselves as you can!

Beef / Concerns: Modded Wiis and Backwards Compability
« on: April 05, 2014, 12:51:11 pm »
Okay fellas, I made a new topic under a broader name, since Dios Mios, Harddrives and backwards compability.

To go back to TimpZ reasoning: The stage does not "expect" to be loaded X seconds, seeing how loading times don't just vary from Hard Drive to Hard Drive. While Wiis are standardized hardware, mine has a halfway broken laser, and my harddrive sometimes still loads slower or faster randomly. I'm gonna guess it's stage dependend.

Either way: My point still stands that there is not enough differences to force proof onto harddrives, because as far as I know it does not influence gameplay. The game 'triggers' when you can move, you should know that. Example: Sweet Mountain 6, or any stage Sonic starts running automatically. You know how the game behaves. You shouldn't bring Sonic 2 into this, seeing how largely different the hardware difference is in this case. As for Generations and Unleashed, which are much closer to this example, Parax already told you how it works in the other thread.

Okay, so I've been thinking about this: According to Parax reasoning, which is "If the game lags for everyone the same on standardized hardware, it's allowed." We should allow S1GBA for competition.

1) WHY?!

First off, we have Sonic 1 and Sonic 1 2013 as charts. S1-13 looks like a different enough game to warrant different and other charts.

Now, why does S1GBA not have different charts? My arguments:

1) It has anniversary and classic mode, in which sonic may or may not use spindash.

2) The Physics are completely different compared to sonic 1, there is no spike glitch, the maps look a little more compressed, you can hit the final zone boss twice (!!) when he comes out of the woodwork.

3) It has a different game-feel overall, different tricks, there are no possible zips. The Level Select does not allow you to go to specific levels or special stages, just the beginning of a zone.

Charts that I think should be included:

Anniversary mode - Times
Anniversary mode - Rings
Classic mode - Times
Classic mode - Rings

(Special Stages - rings)

The reason why I don't think special stages should be included, is because  they go TOO fast, but that might be just me and others could have a different opinion on this.

EDIT: Because I was in an IRL hurry before creating this post, let me add this now: Scores are unreliable because not all enemies spawn at every stage of the game. I've encountered many enemies that spawned at some instances but not in others (mostly in labyrinth zone, the laggiest zone of the game).

TSC Race Night / A REAL unofficial Race Night: Sonic Colours DS
« on: January 07, 2014, 02:51:26 pm »
Hi guys, I'm planning to host a Race Night by myself that did not make the schedule cut:
Sonic Colours DS

Since it's AGDQ week, there won't be an official race night, and the day could be whenever! Same with the time! Trying to fit as many people in that want to race (in case there are any)

Categories (for starters)

Any% [beat the game]
Any% + 1 mission a world [You can do 1 mission each world without needing a powerup from a later one]

If you want any other categories, you can ask for them below.

If you want we can even not use SRL for it! we're FREE to do anything!

EDIT: Also, any weekday from Friday to Sunday can be agreed on, as its more spontaneous, as well as different from regular race nights.
