General Sonic / Re: Kotaku article about Sonic
« on: October 12, 2009, 02:17:30 pm »
And this article was posted before needlemouse's announcement. So i have no clue what to beleive about their target market now.
There are two demographics, as stated in the article. Their main branch will fap over their new kind of games built for kids, and the old skool branch which they will release these type of games every know and then "to keep them satisfied."

Yes, the article is complete bull when you read the whole thing. Why are they having the new direction of Sonic games to target only kids when their old games did the exact same thing? They basically said they they don't care about quality, as long as they can please the kids and they continue to sell, they'll keep making them. But kids will like any game period, why not strive to make a good, quality game that kids, and older audiences can appreciate?

Yes, any game is subjective to opinion and many others still appreciate the newer games, (yes, all three of them >.>) but blantly stating that you don't care about quality is...is...is...completely retarded. Not that all the new games are that bad, mind you. Only the ones outsourced to another company were! :D Oh wait, wut?

But yeah, old topic is old. I'd had bigger grievances with this when it was released but don't care much any more.

2
I don't believe I was serious on the whole thing. <___<;

But on that note, I'll see if I can find my blood type in my Hospital paperwork if it's still here and not it the garage. Shall look for it later as it's late.

3
And no, touhou is not an anime or whatnot, but ZUN has said that he pretty much designed the series with his own interests in mind so eh. There was no intention of pedophilia, hentai, or loli/lolicon...ness. >_>
Granted every character pretty much is a loli except certain exceptions like Sakuya and Yukari but...er... I'll stop here, this is developing into a ramble.
So, it was wrapped to ZUN's intentions, then? If you go by that, then he wanted to depict these being as lolis, is it not?

Oxymoronic statement is oxymoronic.

Any reason as to why he wanted pretty much 98% of them to be female lolis; though, and not having more creative liberty by giving each and every one of them to be more unique and not being uninspired clones of imeccable childish youths?
I don't know, but you have to be blind to not see the the blantly obvious, yet somewhat devilishly unintentional, meaning of it all.

I rest my case.

*Packs up briefcase and leaves*

I noticed that all of these character matchups are all female. I must ask whether the person(s) who concocted this is into anime, Hentai, or a pedophile or all of the above. If that's the case, I'd rather not figure out what my blood type actually is. <_____<

Birthday is 12/27.

But I don't know my own blood type. :(

General Sonic / Re: Music similarity?
« on: December 18, 2008, 04:04:15 pm »
Sonic Advance 3's Chaos Angel Map is a slower version of Holy Summit's stage music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Keo0jcK9A6g&fmt=18
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqNBcDeH8GM

For those of you that can't see it:

Compare 0:00-0:03 in the first one
then from 0:00-0:05 in the second

then go to 8 seconds in the first
and up to 11 seconds in the second

25 to 32 in the first
11 to 22 in the second

Both songs keep the same rhythm and then start going off from their openings and start to get complex afterwords.  The similarities mostly stop there as Holy Summit is a much more longer song.

not my quote...  also, this was an SoA rep... how often do they know what they're talking about?

Was referring to the quoter, not you. =P And in the preview, it specifically stated that Shadow and Knuckles would be two playable characters, and that Knuckles would be wielding two swords; so this is a bit of a contradictory statement ... but that was months ago. They could have changed their minds or something.

^lol what? We were told long ago in the first preview that Knux will be holding dual swords. This is very odd.

Ahahaha. Nice.

I do agree that Shadow would look pretty epic in armor if that's what Knux looks like, though.
Which brings up the question:
Will there be more playable characters?
Fixed for you.

Question: For the Werehog, it there a limit to how much exp. points you can get, or do you infinitely keep receiving them? Or rather, does Werehog have a limit to how many abilities he can receive?

To offer a rough estimate, competition charts will probably go up within a week or two. How fast or slow it goes largely depends on how easily the community can reach a consensus on how things ought to be ranked, and I don't have any knowledge on that front.
Just by watching videos alone, Wii does not track score at all compared to the 360/PS3 version. And in the Wii, Werehog RA would be somewhat uncompetition worthy as you can't lose rings, have no ? boxes, and aren't tracked until you view the results screen.

EDIT: Wait, are we SURE?  I was watching a bunch of gameplay videos, and while only Apotos gameplay is up, there were clips of three different hub maps: Apotos, Spagonia ... and MAZURI.  Where did this post come from?  Do you have a source?

There is a boss on Mazuri in the Wii but no stage, so I heard. I'll try to find a better source from someone who has the game. ... Buuuut you can see for yourself if it's true by seeing a gameplay walkthrough here! http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=SonicWorldAdventure&view=videos

It's been confirmed that Wii version is missing two stages: Empire City and Mizori. (post from someone else)

Gentlemen, the guide has been leaked onto the net with details on the Wii and PS2 versions and the news is grim on there. More on that later. For now, lets get to unlockables and the final boss!

[spoilers written in small font; copy/paste to see for yourself]
-Final Level: Eggmanland. It contains SEVERAL boss fights. First is Eggman in a mech. You fight him as the warehog. Next is a level where you fight Dark Gaia as normal Sonic, and finish it up with Super Sonic and a more powered up Dark Gaia. There might be some more in there.
-No Super Sonic in levels. But really, if it were, it would be purely cosmetic because of how fast he goes normally.
-Sun and Moon Emblems unlock Dark Gaia Gates, special levels where you can play as both Sonic and the Werehog. Nifty.

[spoilers]

And now for the bad news on the Wii and PS2 version. It seems the rumor that two levels were getting cut from it is true... and it's not just acts; WHOLE continents were removed. Specifically, it lacks all of Empire City (New York) and Mazuri (Africa). Those, as confirmed by the guide, are exclusive to the 360 and PS3 versions. Sorry guys.

And first three reviews.

Nintendo Power 8/10 Wii
Telegraph.co.uk: 5/10 360/PS3
Game Informer 6 & 6.75/10 Doesn't say which version. Second Opinion mentions both of them, though.

I really don't have much goals other than compete in other divisions besides TA's in the games i've started already.

Also waits until Sonic Battle times are available because there is no way i'm competing in scores on that game. >.>

I've heard about the towel trick before and seems to work pretty well. :o At least try it for about 5 mins. if you're too worried about it overheating.

And opening the unit I'd say may not be such a bad idea. As long as you make sure you put everything back the way it was so Microsoft doesn't notice. >.> Tightening the bolts tightly is the best precaution.

Gaming and Grazing / Re: My 360...

This might be able to help. Doing these tricks now before it RRoD's could prevent it from getting it. They come with complications, though.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Which-Xbox-360-RROD-Fix-is-the-Best?&id=1310692

Well when I was first started searching for a fix for my Xbox 360 RROD I was overwhelmed by all of the information out there. There are a gazillion sites, each hawking their instructions (typically $24.95...you can get them free) and then there are the multitudes of youtube videos claiming to have found the miracle cure. The three that I am going to review are what appear to be the most popular (and sometimes most ridiculous).

Number #1 - The Towel Trick - It goes something like this: You take the hard drive off, wrap the entire unit in a towel to prevent the excess heat from escaping, turn the console on for about 15 minutes to cook (some instructions recommend 1 hour), shut it down, unplug it for an hour, plug it back in and like magic it works. But why? I haven't heard a decent explanation yet. Here is one of the explanations..."the unit gets so hot that it melts the solder that was cracking to the cause the red lights in the first place"..... Here are a couple of potential hazards as pointed out in the same instructions "could potentially damage other parts of the Xbox".... "The unit could catch on fire it gets so hot". I have to say I am going to rate this as the 2nd most ridiculous fix of the three in consideration. Recommendation: Do not use this fix.

Number #2 - The Ice Bath - I don't even want to explain how to do this. Essentially, a rubbermaid tub is filled with ice water, some vinegar is added, the Xbox 360 is unplugged and submerged in the water/vinegar mixture. After so many minutes the console is removed, drained of water and immediately plugged back in. Need I say more. I actually heard of a kid who attempted this and was severely shocked. This as so many other fixes was presented as a youtube video. It is really quite irresponsible and should be removed. This fix is the most ridiculous fix of the three in consideration. Recommendation: Do not even think about using this fix if you value your life.

Number #3 - X-Clamp Fix - This is the only legitimate fix I have found thus far. It is as permanent as it gets. Do not use it however if your Xbox 360 is still under warranty. Send the console back to Microsoft and let them honor the warranty. However, if the seal is broken and/or it isn't under warranty this fix is your best bet. This is the fix in a nutshell; you open up the console, remove the x-clamps, clean up the old thermal paste, put new thermal paste on, replace the x-clamps with screws and washers, reassemble the unit, overheat, let it cool down and it works on approximately 90% of the units. Recommendation: Use this fix.

For FREE video instructions on how to install the X-clamp fix visit http://xbox360fixit.com You can also get the x-clamp repair kit there. Good luck and good gaming.

We started out playing a new level called Savannah Citadel that exists in the Mazarie area of the game. To get there, we spun our big globe which acts as a world map to Mazarie, which is a stand-in here for Africa. There was an option to visit the village which we did at first by accident; we were supposed to click on stage select. I wont talk about that lest it get me into trouble.

I find Team Sonic and Amy quite effective.

Team: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy

Chao: one regenerating PP on all team members, one regenerating PP on Tails, one that gives you extra items in battle, one whatever/Cheese/one that finds rare chao easily.

Pick a large, tough opponent.
Let Sonic Defend (if low on PP)
Use Scan
Use Adrenaline Rush on Sonic
Use Blow Kiss on Sonic
Use Hail Strom on next round

Watch tough enemies die in one hit.

>.>
<.<

EDIT: ... yeah, let me add a few things I forgot.

Specs: Let Sonic hold the item Economizer (makes POW moves cost one less PP), and one character the Angle Amulet ( has a "... "% chance to revive a fainted comrade).

This tactic is great on bosses and tank opponents that have a lot of HP and/or armor. The rest of the moves is up to you. Having Axe Kick only cost 3 POW points and letting Sonic move 4 times on the next round will decimate the rest of the enemies.

They are confirming it for sure this time.... maybe.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/report-new-multimedia-ds-announced-tonight/

British video game pub MCV is insistent in telling us that the rumored new DS model, packing MP3 functionality and a built-in camera – the DS Sight? – will be announced by Satoru Iwata during Nintendo's press event in Japan around 12AM Joystiq Time tonight. MCV says its source is "impeccable" and "guarantees" the announcement; we say, let's wait until later tonight. We'll be here, on the lookout for anything with the letters D and S in close proximity.

I heard that NoA is also having a meeting and will be announcing it there or some such. Anybody have a better source? >.>

Gaming and Grazing / New DS coming with camera and music compatible
« on: September 29, 2008, 12:20:06 am »
http://kotaku.com/5055944/report-new-nintendo-ds-coming-this-year-with-camera-music-playback

Nintendo will release a new model of the Nintendo DS portable game machine this year. For the first time, it will include a camera and music playback functionality. The wireless functionality of the machine will also be strengthened, allowing it to connect to "information terminals."* Since the DS was released 4 years ago, it has sold 77,000,000 units worldwide. It seems as if the new model will go outside the boundaries of the "game business" to compete with devices like cell phones.

Images that you take with the camera could be used by games. The music playback function will be able to take music from CDs and other sources and play it back.

The price of the new model, like the current 16,800 yen [DS Lite], will be under 20,000 yen. It will first be released in Japan, and overseas releases are under consideration.

---

Sounds good. Hope this is true though. I still have the original and bought it close to launch, so I might get this. I really like the camera capture idea.
