Title: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: KnucklesSonic8 on January 06, 2008, 05:51:36 pm
I can't believe it's coming out this week!!! :o

Anyway, competition thread, as per usual.
Same suit as Rivals 2.
Any discussion on the game once someone gets it would be much appreciated. I really hope I get some $ this week so I can buy it... :(

Otherwise, I won't post somewhat-speculatory classes, even though I know level names, etc. I'll just wait till the game. And boy I'll tell you, I can't wait. :)

Came out today! :o
Hope to get it sometime this week w/ $20 input.

But I'll get started on temporary div lists.

Good thing I can use a gamecube controller in this game because if I don't get Brawl I will probably get this game instead.

Yesterday I was deliberating on whether or not I should post saying that I decided to get this game on PS2.

But now I'm thinking, if I could, I would much rather rent it.... (the game doesn't even look that great..)

But I check now and of course Gameznflix doesn't have it... and I see now that their selection is appallingly low... they almost have pretty much the same games available as when I quit.

GameFly (http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=128125&fcTrack=PS2%20Page?Featured%20Titles) has it, but their membership is now actually more expensive than before, at $16 a month for one game out. THAT'S HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! =(

So now I browsed alternatives and one exists in Gottaplay (http://www.gottaplay.com/catalog.php?game=6523). Their subscription is $13 a month. That's a pretty fair compromise...

because I mean, instead of buying Riders, the money could go toward Gottaplay, and then I could play Riders, as well as a bunch of other games, instead of being stuck with Riders. So that's what I'm gonna do.

Deliberating? Don't you mean... debating? XD

Also, Wii version ftw.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: eggFL on January 09, 2008, 03:54:38 pm
I don't have a Wii though... originally, I'd put off getting the game until I can get it for Wii. But like... Zero Gravity isn't even worth it. So what if I have the inferior version of a cheap side release? Because I mean, it's not like I'd actually buy it a 2nd time if I ever got a Wii.

And I'm not getting a Wii... not until a true Sonic game comes out for it.

Also, what? deliberating is a word you know... at least I hope it is.

Well, anyway, a new Sonic game is rumored atm but you don't think ZG is worth it?
Either way, enjoy the PS2 version as much as you can because I've heard it is inferior to the Wii one, not just in terms of graphics.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: eggFL on January 09, 2008, 04:30:07 pm
yea... and that's will make it all the more interesting to review :P

and a new Sonic game is rumored... but we don't know what system it's gonna be for.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: KnucklesSonic8 on January 09, 2008, 06:55:59 pm
I'm not referring to Sonic Chronicles - that's on the DS almost for sure now.
I'm referring to another "rumored" Wii Sonic game.

Either way, I think SEGA MAY in fact be getting their act together a bit more but they're still not there yet.
One rumor about Sonic Chronicles, the source called it quite possibly the best game in the franchise since Sonic Adventure. :o Well there's something to keep you on the edge of your toes...

TEMPORARY DIVISION LISTS:

Free Race (Triple/Single Lap) / Time Attack (Triple/Single Lap)

Megalo Station
Nightside Rush
Botanical Kingdom
Snowy Kingdom
Meteortech Premises
Meteortech Sparkworks
Aquatic Capital
Tempest Waterway
Gigan Rocks
Gigan Device
Crimson Crater
Security Corridor
Astral Babylon
Mobius Strip
80's Boulevard
90's Boulevard

There are missions yet again so I'll have to evaluate these individually.
Also, the Survival mode may bear some events worthy fo competition, potentially.

Just got the game.

Not bad at all, better than the first Riders.

8/10.

I've played the first level and the controls just feel... meh.

Sonic also feels a bit slippery compared to the first Riders.

Other than that, it's good so far!

What is Sonic Chronicles. You don't mean the Bioware game, do you?

And what is 80's/90's Boulevard?!?!

I would think so Egg.

also I dont think I will get this again, just reminds me too much of Riders 1 and I dont want to go through that again.  maybe later in the year I'll decide to pick it up.  saving everything for SSBB.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: eggFL on January 09, 2008, 09:09:11 pm
yea cause I already knew about the Bioware game

and I already knew about the rumored "true" new Sonic game too

Anyway, I'm not sure how Sonic Bioware is supposed to be the best game in the franchise if it's an RPG. Of course, I figured that's what they should be going for... just going ahead and making a great Sonic game. But any source that actually says that's what it is, is obviously just a Sonic hater site anyway so it doesn't mean anything. And after all, that's what they said about Secret Rings.

:o!! I got it yesterday!!!
It's great from the little I got to play (very busy).

Repeating the division lists:
Free Race (Triple/Single Lap) / Time Attack (Triple/Single Lap)

Megalo Station
Nightside Rush
Botanical Kingdom
Snowy Kingdom
Meteortech Premises
Meteortech Sparkworks
Aquatic Capital
Tempest Waterway
Gigan Rocks
Gigan Device
Crimson Crater
Security Corridor
Astral Babylon
Mobius Strip
80's Boulevard
90's Boulevard

As I said, I need to evaluate the missions so expect those to appear tomorrow or so.

ok I signed up for Gamefly and rented it (Gottaplay had it on "long wait", well it can't be helped, Gamefly just owns)

I guess I'll get it later in the week

hurray~

I'm evaluating missions atm... sorta. I'm also TA'ing stages too so I'm switching between the two on and off.

As for missions, here are some examples:
- Collect a certain number of Rings - it's your call if these are worthy enough to go up
- Complete in a certain time - most should be considered
- Earn Trick Points - ruing it out
- Earn Points for Gravity Control - nah
- Break the Targets - again, ruling it out
- Execute a certain number of grinds - again, nope

Generally, thus far, only timed missions should be considered. All those in question will be posted as I unlock them progressively.

Has anyone ever checked out the World Rankings thing for the Wii version?  I have a spot in MeteorTech Premises.  I should be number 1 unless my time was beat.  The name my time is for is Shea.

wow, did they even try for anything different with them?

well there is the gravity control...

Personally I thought Rider's mission mode in itself was pretty good. Plenty of variety.

Adding more stuff likely wouldn't make or break the game.

I have. MY current best is on 80's Boulevard but I haven't done some SERIOUS competition as of yet. Just trying to get through the missions and unlock everything. Heh.

But that IS an impressive feat and I'm glad they added the Leaderboards.

Anyone have any idea how soon this'll go up? The missions may not be worth waiting for and could always be added later. I just want the main stuff to get added.

Also, there are more missions but I haven't gone through them all yet. I like this mission mode... err... these missions better thus far.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: KnucklesSonic8 on January 17, 2008, 03:37:16 pm
As for missions, out of the one's I've unlocked ad played, each stage has a "race to the goal within a certain time limit" mission and I don't think it's worthy of getting added albeit there are some slight changes on some of them in comparison to their normal variants in the other modes.

Other notable ones are that of earning a certian amount of Gravity Dive points which may be considered.
Another one has you going for as much time on the timer left.
And the runaway car is back on 80's Boulevard. Heh. That may be worth adding as well.

There are a few here and there and I'll have to continue my evaluations but I still say we should jsut add Free Race and Time Attack divisions while we try to sort out the missions.

Also, World Grand Prix also has records now, not just for points I mean.
That is to say, of the 5/6 stages you play on in a Cup, it records your best times. Both of my times for both cups are past 20"xx"xx. It may be worth considering but personally, I don't see a very good reason why it should go up.

Got it.

The models not being shiny brings tears to my eyes.

Not finding any widescreen support in this PS2 version does too but for different reasons.

I probably won't ever compete in this (surprised?) but I'm gonna help with setting up the rankings if necessary.

EDIT: also this is the first time I play a Sonic game with the Japanese audio. It only took the very first cutscene to make me do it.

Just came to post about my latest achievements in this game.  I also feel happy that it is now on the offical website of the game also.  On the leaderboard, I now hold the number 1 spot on seven tracks.  These tracks are:  Nightside Rush, Botanical Kingdom, Snowy Kingdom, MeteorTech Premises, MeteorTech Sparkworks, Crimson Crater, and Mobius Strip.

^Well, lemme see here:

Rolken ~ Busy with stuff and most likely doesn't care.

SadisticMystic ~ Probably doesn't care.

SprintGod ~ Probably doesn't care.

Mike89 ~ Doesn't care.

GerbilSoft ~ He'll probably get the charts up since he did add Rivals 2 to the rankings when no one else cared. Though, he'll need a certain file to add it in the rankings (see: Rivals 2 topic).

Your best bet is to go with GS. As of late he's the only one doing anything useful around this site and will probably help you out.

If I do it, I'll wait for a list of all time and ring missions. I'm sure everyone that's not me has finished the game by now.

Also outside of story mode, what we do we take?
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic

THANK YOU, Rick.

F-Man is worth noting too but GS should be an admin, srsly. He's keeping the site together.

Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic

- Get-to-the-Goal Missions: Nope
Why? Doesn't time you? (Keep in mind I haven't played the game in a week)

- Trick Points: If you guys are up for it (I say go for it in some missions)
Would probably have to be all of them for consistency. Is this just about jumping at the best time for doing tricks and easily maxable? Sounds like meteor bursts domain to me, but correct me if I'm wrong.

- Race: Maybe (I say no; essentially get-to-the-goal again)
Is it timed?

- Land Attacks: Nope
What's this again.

- Gravity Dive Points: Yes
- Gravity Points Remaining: Yes
What's this again.

About Gerbil: he's already an admin.
Title: Re: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - Competition Topic
Post by: KnucklesSonic8 on February 01, 2008, 12:24:48 pm
Get to the Goal and Races time you but you guys didn't feel like adding them last time so...
And besides Get to the Goal is pointless, imo.

Trick Points: jumping at the best time, yeah, but it's not as easily maxable as last time. Has more competition credibility than Meteor Bursts for sure. Especially in stages like Tempest Waterway, it's not that easy since there are a lot of ramps - I racked up like almost 100 points.

Races: Yep, timed as I said.

Land Attacks: infinite special item (where you run and can attack people) and you just attack the robots or in some cases Sonic & company or Eggman. I usually get 6 on all of them. Not worth adding. Same as Meteor Bursts in terms of lack of competition worthiness

Gravity Dive Points: points earned for using Gravity Dive abilities - not just on the "straightaways" as many misconcieve

Gravity Points Remaining: keep a strict watch on your gauge - keep it up as high as you can once you reach the end. There may or may not be a max. Like in Astral Babylon, I got 200...

And I'm glad GS is indeed an admin..

Aside from that, are you willing to add other stuff from my proposals or no? Stuff including Heroes/Specials that should've been up from the beginning...

I will make a guess and say that "Get to the Goal" is useless because it's basically a lap(s) around the course. Which Single Lap and Three Lap divisions would cover.

It seemed to me like it traces one distinct path. And you're forced to a distinct board as well.

As well as this, I'd like to make sure if there's anything else other than free race, time attack and missions.

Trust me, F-Man. That's it.

Survival Ball maybe but if you guys weren't willing to add Survival Race or Survival battle from the original which had greater potential than that, then you wouldn't change your mind here...

Same goes for Survival Relay. Tag was rejected, same case here.

This isn't working. I don't understand the guide.

Here's what I am at:

Quote
- Select your game, and create the game categories; game categories are indications of how a sitewide category applies in one game. Weight is how much each rank counts towards points totals, and absent is how much is piled on for missing stats (or 0 for no total), eg. "Times" / "1.0" / "60000"

Someone continue this for me please.

Well, iono how similar TSC chart creation's interface is to TUSC, but judging from talks with mike while KC Special charts went up, I'm guessing they're close enough. I don't remember dealing with an Absent category when making TUSC charts, but iirc weight and categories were self explanatory. There's really no reason to change the weight from 1.0 for anything because it does naught but create controversy, and the categories should just let you select Time Attack, Races, and Extra from a drop-down menu if the interface is the one I know.

My best guess for absent would be to say 0, for no total. Afaik if you're missing a time stat on the normal charts you don't get a total stat and therefore have one-below-last place credit. The example being 60000 does kind of put me off, though...
