Give me a DS and the cart, and...maybe some day.

There's always the comedy raffle ticket option...

I played it on Download Play (It was Iceman's game)

I beat him in 4/5 races we played, and it was my first time on each track :/

I will highly likely be getting said game :)

Haven't played it yet, but I've heard great things about MK:DS (plans on playing sometime this week). Also, add these titles to the must play DS game list.
1. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.
2. Advance Wars. (Every bit as addicting as the original SNES Ogre Battle game was.)
3. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. Although I bought a DS in August, my primary reason for getting the system was to play this game. (Got this game the day it came out as well.)
4. Wario Ware Twisted.
5. Meteos.

Too bad I don't have a wireless network. :(

Maybe if I can find it somewherez I could get the USB adapter thing. Either that, or I could try at school some time. Because I want in on the pwnage. And Tuesdays and Thursdays I have nice, long breaks (2 and 5 hours respectively :o) during which I could DS, if the wifi works at school.

But I do have MKDS! :o

^You could always play at a hotspot, if you don't mind french fry grease on your DS or having hot coffee spilt on you.

Anyways, I'm ready.  My code is
438149
010632
Post a code, post when you're available, and post whether you snake/SSMT or not, and I'll be ready.

I was originally skeptical of MK:DS snaking and put off buying the game because of it since I remembered how lame it was in F-Zero GX, but now that I've actually played it it is quite awesome! as it doesn't reward you for killing your thumbs.

Also you're probably best off coming in the chatroom if you want to find a match.

For anyone who isn't too good with the emblem maker, there's a simple one attached to this message.  It's just a pic from Sonic ScreenSaver, but it gets the job done.  Take it and use it if you want.  Plus, it would be a great way to identify other TSC members.

I could technically play you guys online, but I suck cock at MKDS. :(

I just recently beat 50cc, and... well... I'm not exactly sure about moving onto 100cc so fast. I'll time trial for a bit.

Oh yeah, and my friend code is:

psyborg

322184
353188

if you want it.

Not like I'm expecting a billion people to add me, but it's worth a try.

And, fyi, I only play as Dry Bones, and on rare occasions, Bowser. But Dry Bones is ftw, IMO.

Post by: Thorn on January 16, 2006, 11:55:44 am
I'll add you.  Skill level doesn't bother me, since items negate that most of the time.

Do people disconnect on you when you pick Dry Bones?  As soon as I pick Yoshi, everyone disconnects.  Heck, people disconnect as soon as I mini-turbo.

That's called Straight Stretch Mini Turbo, or SSMT. I'm not sure how it works in MKDS, but if it's any different to, say, Mario Kart 64's method I'd be very surprised.

Pick a kart with handling that you feel comfortable with, angle the kart, and mini-turbo to the other side of the road.  Do it again, and again, and again...

BTW, Turbos, I bumped into you last night at six o'clock (I think we're in the same time zone), but you disconnected during the last match.  Was that accidental?

Yeah, the circuit breaker tripped and my computer went off, so... I got disconnected and had to go flip the switch..... again..... I only disconnect from races if other people do, because racing with 4 people, then 2 of the losers drop out... that's not fun. :(

Also on a random note what do you all think is the best kart?

Its pretty pointless to ask which character when its dependant on the kart they drive anyway -_-

I haven't tried out all that many but at present I'm saying the Poltergust 4000.

Cucumber plz.

By the way, you don't have to race somebody to get their stats. If you both have each other on the list, you'll get each other's stats when you're on Wi-fi at the same time.

Hey guys.

Uh, anyway, Turbos is a tough player to beat, just warning ye. I've lost to him 2 times, tied once, and had to d/c once because of me homework. But it's still challenging, and I look forward to playing against him again.

Oh yeah, and ROB + Dry Bomber is my new favorite combo, because you can get insane speed boosts without being knocked off Rainbow Road. And I'm serious when I say that. Plus, a robot commanding a tank ftw.

Yup. There's only one person I know who can beat me (without being a cheating snaker) who's name is Regal. He got a 3-star rank just by playing normally.

Once you've gone online once, find the "Confirm Friend Code" option to see your code.  To add other codes, find the "Register Friend Code" option, enter a code, then enter a temporary name for the player.  For you other question, the staff ghosts don't snake, amazingly enough.

Turbos, I know I beat you at least once, unless you think I cheat and snake  (which I hate and will never use outside of single-player mode).  They were really close matches, too, which I liked.
Title: ITT MK:DS rox
Post by: Rolken on January 26, 2006, 05:43:22 pm
Staff ghosts don't "snake" outright; they do use MTs liberally, though. They also somewhat handicap themselves by using karts relevant to the track.

I consider the notion of equating snaking to cheating to be ludicrous, especially in light of that it was already present in Double Dash!! and subsequently not removed but enhanced in the DS version.

It's an advanced technique for advanced players. Whining about it being "cheap" just, well, makes you look whiny.

New combo, I now prefer ROB and the Cucumber for my own reasons, because Dry Bomber kinda seems useless nowadays without using or trying this Snaking tactic. Cucumber is all-around and can be used in a preferable way...

Anyway, what's your favorite stage? I kinda like Wario Stadium and Yoshi Circuit, but I want to know what you think.

Yoshi Circuit, Yoshi Falls and Peach Gardens are my fav's.

The latter because I owninate it >_> I'll post my times later! :O Despite the fact not that many of them are *** rank or beat the Staff Ghosts X)

Gotta love Delfino Square.  I always take the shortcut where you use a light kart to mini-turbo and jump from the planter to the dock, and I've lured so many newbs (and some n00bs) into the water.

I'm getting sick of Figure-8 Circuit and Moo Moo Farm, since everybody picks it.

I've added the friend codes of everybody in this topic. Here's mine:
283530-227259

Snaking, as Rolken says, isn't cheating. It's hard to pull off several mini-turbos at the right time. Don't call other people cheap for doing it if you can't yourself.

On a related note, Supermario posting that he is a tough match gurantees that he is anything but. That's how things work.

My emblem>all

Other emblems<mine

Sonic Rush is fun!

Castlevania:DS is overrated!

Tetris DS and Metroid Prime Hunters look like they're going to be "awesome"!

Does it have to do with the offroad cloud shortcut after the hairpin turn that almost everyone knows by now?

On another note, I need to race again the moment I get back to my router.

*looks back several months* Well, whaddya know, that temp emblem I posted several months ago is now a dead link.  I found the old file, and made a few more.  'Twas a simple matter of re-saving the icons fro Sonic and Knuckles Collection as .GIFs, then plotting them on the 32x32 grid.  These emblems are all heads.

Since there's a limit of four attachments to a post, expect a double post.  Sorry, but it's the simplest way to make them available to everyone.  Credit to http://www.mkdsc.com/decalmaker.php (http://www.mkdsc.com/decalmaker.php) for making the conversion easy.

Heh, I guess you don't actually hafta DL the pics if they show in the forum when I attach them.  Just sit in front of your computer and draw them.  For the Tails pic below, you'll need kinda guess at the size of the boots, since the white ran over.  Same thing for the other character's fists, but those only take a few pixels.
Title: Re: ITT MK:DS rox
Post by: Crowbar on September 22, 2006, 03:24:33 pm
I have a bunch I made on my Photobucket (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v239/crohbar/Mario%20Kart%20DS%20decals/) account, but most of them cutoff at edges and probably wouldn't look very good as actual decals, since I made them all before I actually owned the game or new how decals were displayed. Maybe a 1 pixel border would improve these. A couple are small Advance sprites that fit and work quite well, though.
Title: Re: ITT MK:DS rox
Post by: Thorn on September 22, 2006, 03:34:03 pm
^The SAdv3 and Battle sprites that are mostly just heads would actually look pretty good as decals, since the cut-off almost looks intentional.  I don't think the same could be said for the S3&K sprites that are missing, say, half a boot or a head.  Makes me wish I'd had VBA, so I could've had access to decals like that ages ago.

I suppose we'll end up applying a small logo to our emblems to stand out as TSC members, or voting on one for a standard.  If the latter, may I just say that the first Shadow, Knux, and Chaos pics on your site get my votes, as well as my heads for simplicity's sake.

EDIT: Brief thought: perhaps, with the more simplistic emblems, multiple users could use different colors?  I know those with alike MK:DS and TSC names would be able to tell each other apart, but I figured putting a small pic of your colored emblem in your sig/avatar here would make it really easy to tell who you are on MK:DS.  And re-coloring only takes a minute or two, so it wouldn't be a real hassle.
Title: Re: ITT MK:DS rox

I changed my emblem to the Eggman one.  I added "TSC" in blue near the bottom right corner.

And after looking at Crowbar's designs, the first Shadow one looks cool.
Title: Re: ITT MK:DS rox
Post by: General Throatstomper on September 23, 2006, 04:31:52 pm
Don't standardise emblems. That stifles creativity. But if we want to show pride in TSC, we can always write "TSC". At an amazing 14 pixels, you can't afford not to make it part of your emblem!

And also, I've been thinking. Would we be pro the idea of a MKDS tourney? It seems like we'd have enough players and regular users to pull off. I don't want to rush into it without general approval.

Oh and while I'm on the topic of suggesting things, how about a forum specifically for online gaming? Genius. I know.

Don't see why not.  My only concern is that we'd really hafta have more than two people per match.  I've seen it many times, and just last night when you and Sprint fell behind simultaneously on Rainbow Road: two people per match turns into a competition of who can play mind games with the other person to get the better item at the last ?s.

^I sure as hell don't.  I've never played you, I only played Psyborg and Joe once, never played Rolk or BenB17... I'd like to, obviously.  No idea how good you guys are.

I'll tell you what, playing genus and Sprint has made me a better snaker in less than 24 hours.  I was looking at Rainbow Road quality snaking when I went in the zone.  I feel like I could go and get three stars now, thanks guys.

Trust me, I'm really good.  I've faced genus and Sprint as well, and they weren't nearly a match for me (in fact, only one person was slightly better than me).  I can snake consistantly on every track (Choco Island 2, though, is a super pain, though, since when I raced them there, I snaked into a piranha plant on laps 2 and 3 in the muddy area), especially Rainbow Road.

^I'll believe it when I see it.  I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if you blow me away, but there's been so much skepticism on the forums lately that I think I'll join the trend.  Sprint, genus, I, and yse all had moments where we left the pack in the dust, but items changed that around really fast.

Well, we should race each other one day.  And a 4-player race on Baby Park, where all people snake... that's utter chaos!  There, it's how lucky you get with getting and avoiding items.

Two players almost always resort to who gets the better items. OUT.

Three players are just dumb. OUT.

Four players are completely random. OUT.

...hey wait a sec.

Well I'll think of something.

Also, when you're facing people who are actually good, you tend to get better. In other words groudon, I doubt that I'll have to keep finishing in second behind you.

...was I just burned?  I just don't think it should always be us coming to a stop and moving inches at a time every time the last lap rolls around.  Dude, if you have an opinion, voice it, I'd be happy to agree if you've got support.  I'm probably just spouting fumes, I know.  I know we can't have no two-player matches.

Nah, I'm realising that none of these are good for competitive play. The problem, of course, is to find the one which is best for competitive play. Post opinions in the topic.

Oh and yeah, only time will tell. But why not join the chatroom? We might have enough people for a 4 player.

Blah. Somebody deleted my MKDS data so now that I'm back at an acceptable level, I connected to WFC only to find I needed to generate a new friend code.

So here: 339416-197132

Adding everyone else again momentarily.

EDIT: on a random note, I was messing around on the friend code select screen trying to find a random, when lo and behold, I found one!

So everyone add this code: 158654-532300 Don't add this code, it was what was keeping me off wifi for a couple of weeks!
